What is Math Field Day?
(9/96) Math Field Day is a district wide event that enriches our math curriculum in a team format.

(9/96) Artia Moghbel and Braeden Carrico who have passed all eight Math Masters.
Math Masters
Students are tested on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Upper graders are given two minutes, primary children three minutes. When they have perfect papers in the timed test, the become a "Math Master". Their name is noted on a bulletin board in the main hall and they receive a certificate from the Principal.
Math Field Day
By Raymond Pai
(5/96) Math Field Day was on April 20, 1996. Math Field Day contestants trained hard to go to this special event.
First, the teachers in grades four through six chose five students from their classrooms. Then the students train until Math Field Day with instructor, Mrs. Russell. The four representatives and one alternate from each grade level are chosen to go to the Math Field Day competition. The alternate is chosen in case one of the other team members becomes sick.
This year Monte Vista had a wonderful group of representatives.
In fourth grade there was:
- Chad Moseley
- Daniel Eun
- Benjamin Yim
- Esther McBirney
In fifth grade there was:
- Thomas Mikuckis
- Justin Kim
- William Kim
- Jon Oh
In sixth grade the team is:
- Raymond Pai
- Alex Song
- Joseph Ryu
- Priscilla Park
The alternates were:
- Michael Lyons in fourth grade
- Jessica Trimis in fifth grade
- Armen Terhakopian in sixth grade
We had several winners from our school.
- Thomas Mikuckis took 2nd place award in Estimation and 3rd place in Problem Solving.
- Justin Kim was first place and Raymond Pai took 2nd place in Problem solving.
- William Kim will compete in the Los Angeles County Math Field Day
- with Esther McBirney as an alternate in case any of the 4th grade team can not attend.
In all, Math Field Day is pretty fun.
