Wendy Pollack has been at Monte Vista since 1991 and teaches 6th grade. She has also taught 7th and 8th grade at Pascals Baylon School. She received her B.A. in Liberal Studies from CSUC and her teaching credential from CSUN. She's excited by "seeing a child's face light up when they understand something we have worked hard on!" This excitement is reflected in her most memorable moment in teaching. A former student who had graduated from 6th grade to 7th grade, some six months before, came back to show her his 7th grade report card! Some of her special projects include her toothpick sculptures, oral reports, tool making, and tastebud experiments. The variety of teaching made it difficult for Mrs. Pollack to pick out a favorite subject as "subjects change dependent on what theme or unit I am teaching." Her grandmother taught K-12 in a one room school house in South Dakota many, many years ago. Mrs. Pollack is excited to teach and meet new people.
Mrs. Pollack enjoyed the 6th grade campout in January. They camped in the snow and she spent most of her time falling or sliding down in the snow. Many times this was done right in front of all her students who found it very funny! No wonder her favorite animal is the penguin! Her favorite book is "A Chocolate Moose for Dinner."
Mrs. Pollack and her husband, David, enjoy working out at Gold's Gym and watching the Redskins and Dodgers. She also enjoys making silk flower arrangements. When she has spare time she likes to play with her son, Nathan, and their dog Opus, an American Escimo. She loves reading mysteries and enjoys watching Survivor. Her favorite movie is Forrest Gump. She listens to music by James Taylor. Her favorite vegetable is acorn squash and her favorite color is red -- all shades. She loves to vacation in Maui and Las Vegas.
