Choose one of the characters from your book and make some type of puppet. It would be easier if you choose the main character, but the choice is yours. This is your chance to use your imagination to create a creative puppet. You may use a variety of materials such as sticks, felt, colored paper, paints, lace, fabric, styrofoam, socks, etc. Please try not to use a paper bag. You have plenty of time to create a puppet which you can be proud of. Please see me for many other ideas if you need help with your puppet.
You may not use a store bought puppet. The puppet must be something which you have made.
You will give an oral presentation in front of the class. The puppet will be telling the story from its point of view. The presentation will be an average length of five minutes. You need to practice your oral presentation at home several times before your assigned day. Presentations for Mrs. Young's class should average 3 to 4 minutes, not more than 5 minutes.
You will sign up your choice of Monday through Friday on the schedule. Your puppet will be due the day of your presentation. You may use notes during your presentation to help you remember. The notes are for your use only and do not need to be turned in. Plan your presentation in a timely manner and be prepared on your assigned day.
Write a short summary (50-100 words) about the book. Turn in the summary with your puppet. You will write the summary on a 4 x 6 index card. Your summary may be typed or written in cursive with blue or black ink. If you need index card(s) please ask. Include your name, book title (underlined), author, and number of pages. Follow the sample below. Mrs. Young does not require a written summary.
