Old Dreams

The dreams all are new
but they're dreams all of yesterday
The schemes all seem new
but they're the things I should have said yesterday
I might have had you
but now you're so far away
My whole life is lived in dreams

I wake in the morning
disturb my dreaming
I remember how it was
while I was sleeping
You were on my mind
So close, safe-keeping

Once upon a time I had a friend
As children we shared a lot of things
But as I grew my needs grew too -
And halfway there I met you

We could share almost anything
Whatever life's madness would bring
When you were around things weren't so bad
and I think you're the truest friend I've had

You helped me to come to reality
You helped me see things
You helped me be
I would never face the world alone but with you as my friend
I feel strong

Freedom?

Can you see beyond the promises
Of a country that is free?
No more starving, no more suffering
No more poverty
Look deep into the problems
That our nation has survived
No, look into the present
The problems are very much alive

A country that is free, they say--
Freedom to do whatever you can
Freedom of speech and to whom you pray
Opportunity for every man
Is it true we have so much?
Do we own the winning card?
People who really tink as such
Should look beyond their own front yards

Yes, God bless America!-- For the land that we want to achieve
But right now I think there's a lot to be done
And such a place is just a dream

When we can look just below the sky
And see all brothers standing high
With their arms stretched out for liberty
That's when we can thank our God we're free

At the Bay

I remember the starlit night
that we slept by the sea
The moon shone across the ocean
And on the rocks that were in the bay

The warm summer breeze
The salt mist in the air
The gleam from the lighthouse
I seen through a contented tear

Now we and summer are over
And winter is come to stay
But I can dream about the warm summer night
We slept beneath the stars
At the Bay
