But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love
We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.
Psalm 33:18, 20-22 NIV
In times of crises we can place our hope in God.
It has been said that man can live about 40 days without food, about 3 days without water, and about 4 minutes without air, but only one second without hope.

"...Lot's wife looked back..." (Genesis 19:26); "Remember Lot's
wife!" (Luke 17:32). Almost saved, yet lost, because she looked back and wondered if what she was leaving was worth the loss...! Lot's wife
appears long enough to disappear--and long enough to remind us to be willing to leave behind those weights that will lose us our
salvation.
"...Let us also lay aside every en-cumbrance, and the sin which so easily en-tangles us, and let us run with
endurance the race that is set before us..." (Hebrews 12:1 NAS).

Years ago Leslie D. Weatherhead gave five talks on the will of God and they were made into a remarkable little book, The Will of God. The theme of the book is that nothing falls outside the
circle of Divine Providence:
1) the know-ledge of God embraces it;
2) His power is sovereign over it;
3) His mercy holds it, creatively.
The key is God's goodness. The parent does not will evil for the child; neither does God will evil for His
children. We are subject to this good will which is never a capricious humor on God's part. Our part is to
surrender to this good will: "Nevertheless, Your will, O God..."

"Underneath are the everlasting arms." - Deuteronomy 33:27 |
"He shall choose our inheritance for us." - Psalm 47:4
|
There are seasons when the Christian sinks very low in humiliation. Under a deep sense of his great sinfulness, he is humbled before God till he scarcely knows how to pray, because he appears, in his own sight, so worthless. Well, child of God, remember that when thou art at thy worst and lowest, yet "underneath" thee "are everlasting arms." |
Some plants die if they have too much sunshine. It may be that you are planted where you get but little, you are put there by the loving Husbandman, because only in that situation will you bring forth fruit unto perfection.

"The trial of your faith." - 1 Peter 1:7
|
"And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God."' - Luke 6:12
|
Faith untried may be true faith, but it is sure to be little faith, and it is likely to remain dwarfish so long as it is without trials. Faith never prospers so well as when all things are against her: tempests are her trainers, and lightnings are her illuminators. |
If ever one of woman born might have lived without prayer, it was our spotless, perfect a Lord, and yet none was ever so much in supplication as he! Such was his love to his Father, that he loved much to be in communion with him: such his love for his people, that he desired to be much in intercession for them. |

...and by his light I walked through darkness! JOB 29:3 NIV
No Injustice by Pat Nordman
|
We have all encountered what we feel is injustice. We only perceive what is happening at this moment, and that is colored by our own prejudices. God works in the whole of human historypast, present and futureso what we see or feel happening right at this moment that seems so outrageous and unethical is set in a panorama of sacred history. It helps so much to remember this. "Every good and perfect gift is from above" James 1:17. God originates good and controls evil, and that is the essence of His justice. We could go insaneindeed, some doif we didn't believe that somewhere there is ultimate impartiality. "When I tried to understand all this, it was oppressive to me till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny" Psalm 73:16,17. Only God knows the end from the beginning. He understands because He experienced the greatest injustice on earth. Still He could say, "Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing" Luke 23:34. Perhaps this is the most ethical utterance made by Man for man. It certainly spotlights man's inhumanity to man. Yes, Father, forgive them. . .and forgive us, too. "The Lord is a God who knows and by him deeds are weighed" 1 Samuel 2:3b. Only God can possibly know motives, a knowledge necessary for honorable judgment. "The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good" Proverbs 15:3. Since we can't be everywhere and see everything, it is best that we leave the judging to God. He is holy and therefore incapable of judging from any wrong reason or rule. Our righteous God is farsighted and sees all, while we are so nearsighted, so spiritually myopic, that all we see is what is happening right now and its seeming unfairness.
