But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief.
Job 16:5 (NIV)
Humility before Lifting by Cathy Vinson |
Perhaps
in the upside-downness of God's Kingdom, we are most familiar with His truth that humility
precedes a rising. If it is to be God's rise, it will be preceded by being low-lying. Many
times we may actually be giving rise to ourselves, for how many of us know our own
deceitfulness? " Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in
humility..." (Phil 2:3). This sequence of low to high is the way God chose for His Son. This is how the Son has done it. God loves the Son's way. You can hear His abundant joy in exalting Jesus: ..."exalted Him to the highest place," "above every name," "every knee should bow," "every tongue confess Christ Jesus is Lord, to the glory of the Father" (vss 9-11)! He loves us so much to clearly exhort us onto the same path that leads to rising. James says in 4:10 "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you." Peter says in 5:6 "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time." Let us follow God's way for us, which is Christ's, His very special Son |
" Do nothing
out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility..." (Phil 2:3) |
