THE ISLAND OF LICAGO

the island of generals, warriors, and the first recorded "parting of the oceans"

The "parting of the ocean"

The first great battle of the civil war in Atlantis was actually an escape, and like Dunkirk and the great retreats of modern history, it saved a large army (from the north). However, what makes this escape especially interesting is that it is the first time in history that there is a mention of "a parting of waters" in this case was the ocean. Throughout history there were only two other times such a feat was recorded.

The most recent account was, of course, the everyone knows about that is recorded in the Bible, with Moses parting the red sea so that the Israelites could escape the Egyptian soldiers. However, there is a much older Egyptian account of one parting the water hundreds of years before Moses. (Moses was said to be well learned in the ways of Egyptian magic, so it may be he learned this feat of magic from the Egyptians - which would be ironic indeed - since he used it against them with such effects).

The first ever written account of one parting the water was at the beginning of the IVth dynasty in Egypt, around 3800 BC. This was performed by a magician named Tchatch-emankh who lived under the rule of Khufu (Cheops). The story describes a group of girls rowing across a lake, one who was to be married to a noble. The future bride had been given a beautiful ornament, which was the symbol of her future husband's love - as well as the all important symbol to allow her to enter the court.

In the course of her rowing, the ornament dropped and fell into the lake. By chance the magician Tchatch-emankh was near when the boat arrived and heard the girl crying - for such a crime not only meant the end of her wedding, entering the court, but even death. The magician then asked to be taken to the spot where she dropped it, and when he was there said a series of magic words when then caused one section of water to "go upon itself" until the boat was sitting of the floor of the lake.

There is even evidence from shore that something unusual was occurring in the middle of the lake. The lake was known to be 12 cubits deep, and when the magician was out, the people on shore noticed that the lake overflowed "as so does the Nile". After measuring the "flood" - mathematics showed that the water touched levels as if it were 24 cubits, thus proving the water rose 12 cubits when the magician "parted it".

The Island of Licaga

Licaga was an island chain that had the least amount of land area, and the smallest population of all twelve islands. While they were the fewest in number, they were also the most able, with many of from their island winning the highest honors at the yearly "Contest", a similar competition to our Olympic games. These naturally strong, hard driving people were made even tougher by the mountainous conditions that existed throughout the main island and the chain of islands that extended from it.

Licaganians were also on average stronger than those of the other islands since their local government was militaristic, much like ancient Sparta in Greece. Youth began athletic (military) training at age 3 to develop their physical ability and strength. Early in Altantean history during the Wa epoch, when the people of Atlantis were fighting of outside invaders, Licaganian generals never lost a battle. When all the islands were united into one force, naturally then a Licaganian general was chosen to lead it, which had become the tradition ever since.

When the scientists of the main island of Atlantia began to do genetic experiments (mixing people and animals to create an obedient "warrior race") they began kidnapping Licaganian youth from Daros, Cagos, and Galos, which were the islands of the Licaga chain that were closest to the main island of Atlantia. At first the youths were considered lost in training, since the waters in this area was treacherous and training conditions were severe. However, one of the youth escaped his captors and told of the horrible experiments being conducted.

The Battle of Licaga

This event caused an outrage, and the islands of the north and south began to prepare for war. However, during this time the scientists of Atlantia were already distributing the "cressas", which were tiny devices placed in the eye for pleasure, but unknown to all was also used for mind control (since it picked up command electronic waves from the scientists and sent them into the individual's brain). Earlier all the subjects of the southern islands and the neutral island of Statara were brought under control, and the scientists knew that of all the northern islands, Licaga would have to be "subjected" first.

Through agents placed on Statara, thousands of cressas were sold and shipped to Licaga, who being a hearty people that worked hard, also played hard and relished pleasure. Unfortunately, nearly half the Licaganians came under the control of the cressas before word arrived from the northern island of Azoro to avoid them. Seeing that the other half were now warned of their plot, the scientists then commanded the Licaganians under their command to attack the other half. Thus the first battle of the Atlantean civil was truly brother against brother.

Since Licaga was a military cast system, those with special skills and honor were also first in position to the rewards of power - and pleasure - so those most skilled were the ones under the command of the scientists of Atlantia. Their fighting skills soon overwhelmed the others, who were trapped in the harbor of Elzatan, Licaga's second largest city. It so happens that Kos, the most powerful magician from the island of Perco was in Elzatan and parted the ocean so the retreating Licaganians could escape to the nearby island of Benlos. As Moses would do later, he collapsed the water on the many of the pursuing soldiers who were controlled by cressas. Many of the north's best Lacaganians soldiers were saved, but the others were now under control of the scientists from the south....
