| "High technology
manufacturing enterprises are on the increase in Singapore and often the
role of materials in these industries is crucial to their success. As
a result there is a growing demand for competent Materials Engineers who
have a sound understanding of the synthesis and processing, structure,
properties, and performance of materials, and their inter-relationships."

List
Equipped with specialised
knowledge on the properties and manipulation of materials, Materials
Engineers easily fit into technology-based industries where they can
apply their technical expertise on advanced technologies that are increasingly
being employed in manufacturing practices.
Jobs related to
Materials Engineering
1. Materials
Engineer
A Materials Engineer carries out regular inspection of the manufacturing
plant to ensure that the plant is functioning to its optimum capacity.
2. Research
and Development (R&D) Materials Scientist
An R&D Materials Scientist develops a specialised knowledge on the fundamentals
of material behaviour through research and experimentation. He or she
is also concerned with establishing the industrial applications for
newly developed materials, and monitoring their subsequent interactions
during product use.
3. Metallurgical
Engineer
Metallurgical Engineers specialise in the study of metals, alloys and
radioactive materials. They develop an in-depth knowledge of both the
physical and chemical characteristics of metals and alloys. In addition,
they design and carry out investigative studies to further ascertain
the behaviour of metals and alloys under different applications. In
the course of their investigative work, they also gain technical expertise
in handling advanced instruments to characterise the microstructural
morphology as well as chemistry of the metallurgical samples.
4. Installation
Engineer
An Installation Engineer is concerned with providing technical support
for customers. In addition, he or she is involved in training customers
on both instrument and software applications.
5. Test
Engineer
A Test Engineer plays a leading role in supporting the production line.
They maintain testers to ensure that the downtime is kept within the
targeted figures. He or she also develops hardware, software and test
systems. In addition, he or she seeks to improve the reliability and
effectiveness of test systems by initiating and implementing the relevant
programs and projects.
