Winston Cup
    1998
    NASCAR's 50th Anniversary

    Pepsi Southern 500
On September 6th Darlington Raceway will be the host of the next stage in the Winston No-Bull 5. The Mountain Dew Southern 500 was traditionally the final stage of the Winston Million, and is where Bill Elliott and Jeff Gordon earned their millions at. This years special even will conclude at Talladega. Let's all cheer for Steve to earn a top 5 finish here! (if he's driving again) He didn't get the chance to run here earlier in the year, as the Atlanta accident occurred right before the test session was to take place. Ron Hornaday filled in for him here in March. Dalington Raceway

Exide NASCAR select Batteries 400       Richmond International Raceway hosts another round of night racing on September 12th. The Exide NASCAR select Batteries 400 may be our first chance to see Steve race here since his final BGN victory here last year. RIR

MBNA Gold 400       The MBNA Gold 400 is the final race at Dover Downs International Speedway for 1998. "The Monster Mile" is always an exciting race, and we're all hoping to see Steve's participation. Dover Downs

I'm particularly excited about this race, as once again I will be going to the race! I will be spending the weekend there, and plan to bring back plenty of pictures and news!

    NAPA AutoCare 500
On September 27th, the NAPA AutoCare 500 was held at Martinsville Speedway. The heat soared that day, and many drivers were forced to get out of their cars and hand the wheel over to someone else out of pure heat exhaustion. Ricky Rudd was in severe pain, especially after his air cooling system in his helmet freeze up early in the race. Not only was he not getting cool air, he wasn't getting any. His car was obviously strong, and wild horses couldn't drag him away on that day. His win was one of the most moving performances in years. His crew had to pull him from the car in victory lane, and lie him flat on his back. He was administered oxygen immediately, and even did his post-race interview from that prone position. Rudd suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns, but that win also extended his streak of seasons with at least one win! Martinsville Speedway
