    UAW-GM Quality 500
The UAW-GM Quality 500 will be held on October 4th. It is the return to Charlotte Motor Speedway, right in the middle of NASCAR country. This is considered the "home" track for most of the guys. This will be Steve's first trip to the track this year, but the team was here in May with DW. Charlotte Motor Speedway

    Winston 500
The Winston 500 is the final installment of the Winston No Bull 5 competition of 1998. On October 11th the first of 2 consecutive super-speedway races will be held, this week at Talladega Superspeedway. Everyone is hoping to have a safe race, even if it's uncharacteristic for Talladega! Should there be the usual multi-car pileup, a lot of teams may be hurting for Daytona the following week. Although Steve was still rehabilitating in April when we were here last time, he did have a great run last year here in his BGN car. He ran an impressive 2nd to Mark Martin, making many passing attempts in the final laps. It will be great to see him race here again!

"Running two superspeedways back-to-back is going to make a lot of people nervous. Right now, we don't have three speedway cars and really don't plan to have another done before those races. We have more important things to work on right now than building a potential, worst-case scenario racecar for October. Of course, you can go through two speedway cars in one weekend and that could leave you without a back-up car for the second weekend. Everyone will get by the first week, but the problem is the second weekend. A lot of the crew chiefs are going to be pretty nervous those two weeks. In fact, a lot of people right now are arranging deals with each other. If they run into trouble they might use another team's third car if they aren't in trouble." - Philippe Lopez, On Consecutive Superspeedway Races in October:

    Pepsi 400
The Pepsi 400 was officially postponed until Saturday night October 17th, due to the wild fires around the Daytona International Speedway area. Oddly enough, this puts two restrictor plate races back to back! Daytona International Speedway

    Dura Lube 500/Kmart
The Dura-Lube 500 presented by Kmart on October 25th is the only trip to Phoenix International Raceway of the year, so Steve didn't miss anything on this track. He did visit Phoenix last year, racing not only in the cup car, but also making an appearance in the Craftsman Truck Series race as well. (Don't remember? See the pics.)
