Then Zophar replied to Job.
"Are we supposed to just let this go without an answer?
Are we supposed to just sit here quietly while this person denies he is guilty?
Job is so wrong in what he says. How can we not speak?
When you make fun of God - when you show such disrespect for Him - you should expect someone to speak up about how wrong you are!
You say 'I know everything! I am perfect and holy!'
How I wish God would talk back to you and teach you a thing or two about true wisdom!
True wisdom is deeper than things look on the surface. And you can be sure of this Job. God has already forgiven you of some of your sin.
Can you understand the mysteries of God? Can you probe His limits? There is absolutely no way! For they are higher than heaven itself! They are deeper than the grave! (What do you know about that Job?) They are longer than the earth and wider than the sea.
If God were to put you in prison, and if he were to convene a courtroom... Who are you or me to say He shouldn't do it? He knows who is a no good liar. He knows evil when he sees it. He sees it and knows what to do about it. But you cannot explain these things to a man who is unwilling to listen. He will never understand the ways of God. It is like trying to make a wild donkey have a human child. It just ain't gonna happen!
But Job, its not too late for you! If you give your whole heart to God, and if you reach out to Him, If you will let go of the sin that you continue to hold on to, If you do not allow wickedness in your household, then you will no longer be in such shameful despair.
Then you will no longer be so afraid of what God is going to do to you! You will forget your troubles for they will have been put behind you! It will be a whole new, bright, day of sunshine and possibility for you! Even your night will shine bright like a great day of opportunity!
Then you will be safe from harm. You will have hope in your life! You will rest without worrying about harm coming your way. You will lie down to sleep and nobody will sneak up on you.
Your success will bring you many friends. But the evil-doer. He will not be able to see clearly. They will not be able to escape God's judgement. Their hope will be reduced to a single, last, breath before they die!
