Psycho, Alfred Hitchcock's most popular movie, is a quirky story about lust, jealousy, and one esoteric phenomenon. Psycho will leave you flabbergasted, and I mean mouth open, eyes fixed, and speechless-- simply flabbergasted! Perhaps I am exaggerating, but that is how I and many others felt when we saw the movie. This movie can be psycho-analysed and explained to me and I still won't be able to understand the theme and meaning in this movie, nor do I care to. This movie is pure entertainment. It is very enjoyable, and if your are of the age 15 and up, you should have already seen the film...
All in all, the movie is about one troubled man, his mother, and an ill fated woman. Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) with one rash decision concerning her boyfriend, Sam (John Gavin), steals $40,000 from her employer, and is on the run to see her boyfriend. Running from the law can be tough. Marion decides to do the right thing and return the money, but suddenly becomes unable to do so when she makes an unfortunate stay at the Bates Motel. The keeper of the motel, Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) is a shy, and friendly guy but is controled by his over-protective and jealous mother. Marion is a threat to Mother Bates and is victimized in the now famous "shower scene". Like a good boy, Norman cleans up for Mother. It seems that Norman and his Mother are clear from suspicion. Unfortunatly for Norman, Marion left behind a concerned boyfriend, Sam and sister, Lila (Vera Miles). It seems that Sam's and Lila's search for Marion is going no where until they meet Norman. Will Sam and Lila be able to discover the terrifying truth behind Marion's diappearence and death?
The ending is a sure surprise... be certain not to read any spoilers concerning Psycho. I am afraid that I have already given away too much. This black and white film is definetly worth the time. This is Hitchcock at his finest. All his technique is displayed within this movie. He truely lives up to his name, Master of Suspense, in Psycho.
