Rear Window is a film about obsession and human curiosty. Voyeurism is the name of the game in this truely brilliant and suspenseful Alfred Hitchcock film. Not only does this film possess suspense but also humour and a look at relationships.
Rear Window was entirely filmed on one set; a very realistic appartment courtyard. The courtyard is composed of 31 appartments, and each tenant offers something different to watch, including the main character's appartment.
Jeff (James Stewart) is a professional photographer who has broken his leg while attempting to take a picture of a race car accident. He has been confined to a wheel chair and stuck in his appartment for six weeks, with nothing to do but watch his neighbors from the courtyard through his appartment rear windows. Not even his daily visits from his nurse, Stella (Thelma Ritter) and his girlfriend, Lisa (Grace Kelly) can keep him away from spying on his neighbors activities.
Late one night as Jeff watches outside his window, he stumbles across something. Jeff suspects that his neighbor from across the courtyard (Raymond Burr) has murdered his sick wife! With the help of Lisa and Stella, will Jeff be able to convince the police for an arrest?

To enjoy this already enjoyable film more, I suggest that you pay very close attention to the dialogue. I of course, never did the first time I saw the film. But after watching it for about the third or fourth time, I found something new (a joke, a detail) in the dialogue. May I also suggest that you keep your eyes on the screen the whole time. Because there are so many scenes without dialogue, maybe your eyes will wander. Don't let them! You will miss valuable clues!
