UPDATE: April 2003 The New Writers Network still accepts updates via the form, and publishes this. However, after living in India for a while and now heading back to the UK across Europe, some of the names/addresses may be out of date as I haven't seen a writers yearbook for a while now. The database is still the best place to find out the way businesses really respond to new writing, and do feel free to use the on-line form, but please check contact details with another source before sending work to a business.

Welcome to The New Writers' Network, the complete guide for aspiring authors to see their work in print. Inside this site:

  • An easily searchable directory of publishers, agents, magazines etc. all open to new writing submissions, including address, phone, fax, editor names - in fact everything you need to submit your manuscript. Also, check out our unique thumbs up/down rating to indicate which businesses are most open to new writing, or otherwise. Only awarded by writers themselves.
  • Articles and advice on manuscript submission to increase your chances of publication.
  • Other useful addresses for writers.
  • An update form where you, writers themselves, contribute. Rating how open various businesses are to new writing, updating addresses and editor changes, adding new addresses of opportunity, education, hyperlinks, anything that can help your fellow writers achieve their goal.

The advantages of using The New writers' Network are:

  • All agents and publishers say they are open to new writing because they don't want the negative image of appearing in a writers directory stating they are a closed shop. Print directories are written by publishers who have no experience of how open other businesses really are. The New Writers' Network is written by writers themselves, so is based on the way businesses conduct themselves rather than what one editor tells another.
  • Businesses who are genuinely open to new writing shall be encouraged by seeing themselves awarded our thumbs up recognition. Businesses who only poach and milk established giants and contribute nothing to the art form will be encouraged to divert a fraction of their profits to efficient new scouting practices.
  • By checking the types of genre/format solicited and who is open to new writing, everyone can save time and money by targeting their your work properly and not bothering with editors who can't be bothered with new people.
  • The Directory is always current because updates submitted by writers themselves are entered immediately rather than in a new print edition.

The Directory consists of:

  • Agents (86)
  • Publishers (63)
  • Magazines (13)
  • Misc. (17) (Prizes, Unions, Writers circles etc.)
  • Writers Links.
  • Articles on things you'll need to know as an aspiring author.

At the moment is The directory is UK based, though unless otherwise stated, all addresses will accept a manuscript from any country as long as return postage is included.

Any bone fide writer recommending or warning of a business not included shall be added, regardless of the country, and so with your networking help this can grow to the best worldwide guide to being published on the Internet. Remember, writers themselves also update the information, so do please take time to fill in the on-line update/referral form.

Just think of all the undiscovered talent out there - maybe it's you! Or perhaps your networking on the site will change someone's life. Just think if we can even enrich the world by discovering the next literary genius. Please enjoy The New Writers Network, and contribute!

Please support The New Writers' Network

Was this site useful to you? The information is completely for free and, as far as I know, a database updated by writers themselves is unique on the Internet. It makes me absolutely no money at all and is purely a labour of love.

Personally, I haven't sold a project for a couple of years. I'm working on a large piece right now and have enough money until February (2002). If it doesn't sell by them I'm in big trouble as I am writing full time.

Please consider supporting The New Writers' Network by making a contribution, no matter how much. Any amount is gratefully received. If I receive enough I'll buy a domain and get all the advertising taken off the site.

Thank you.
