The Eagle

The Eagle is something which will remain very theoretical for most practitioners. This a summary of what is written in Castanedas books [book 6 onwards].

In The Eagle's Gift [CC book 6] the Eagle is described as the universal source of everything. Everything is said to emanate from the Eagle, and it is the source of awareness. The Eagle is an unpersonal force, like gravity.

I have not found anything in any other traditions that even vaguely resembles the description of the Eagle. Well, vaguely perhaps...

The Eagle is called "the Eagle" because it looks like an Eagle to the seer, not because it has anything at all to do with the animal eagle. The Eagle is shown to the seer in four bright flashes of light:

The first flash shows the shape of the Eagle. There are white flashes that resembles the feathers an claws of an Eagle.

The second flash reveals the windy darkness that is the wings of the Eagle.

The third flash shows the Eagles eye.

The fourth flash reveals the doings of the Eagle: It is consuming the awareness of things which have been alive, but now are dead.

-The Eagle's Gift

It is said that the Eagle does not care for humans or human actions, but has given everyone the possibility to avoid being consumed by the Eagle at the moment of death; this is called "the Eagles Gift".

The Eagles Emanations makes up several 'bands', of which a certain number of bands make up the world we perceive in our everyday world, and one of the bands make up our awareness.  It is possible to shift the awareness to the other bands, and thus 'create' new worlds. There are said to be ten such worlds [Journey to Ixtlan].

The Eagle is part of the Unknowable. The Eagle cannot be seen directly, but must be seen in dreaming. The result when trying to see the Eagle directly is death [cc8], the reason being that it took too much energy to see the Eagle.
