According to Castaneda, there are 48
emanations, bands of energy, in 
our world [cc7]...

In 'The Fire From Within' [cc7] Castaneda gives us the ultimate construction of the universe; everything consists of inconceivable bands of energy, which emanates from the likewise inconceivable force called 'the Eagle'. There are an infinite amount of bands, but only 48 of them are 'visible' in our world. Each of these bands, emanations, consists of numerous 'filaments', and every object and every consciousness is the product of certain combinations of these filaments within a certain band.

Eight of these bands produce consciousness. The remaining 40 bands are 'empty', and produce 'objects' or 'vessels'. The world we perceive consists of one of these 40 bands, and our mind is the result of one of the eight conscious bands. The remaining 7 conscious bands produces inorganic beings of various kinds.

There are three kinds of huge 'filaments' which produces awareness, and these filaments runs through the eight aware emanations. These are:

1. Pinkish (mostly plants)
2. Peach (mostly insects)
3. Amber (mostly humans and other animals)

The Amber colour in humans comes in four different hues:

3a. Pinkish (common)
3b. Greenish (common)
3c. Bluish (less common)
3d. Amber Yellow (rare)

The other seven emanations that produce awareness can be 'Assembled' into complete worlds by movement of the Assemblage Point. Two of these are said to be 'easy', while the remaining five are 'something else'.

According to this classification the trees are closer to humans than ants. Also, powerplants are said to have lots of emenations in common with humans except, of course, the awareness filaments.

The relation between inorganic beings and humans is said to be dependant of the amount of emanations we have in common. Those inorganic beings which does not have any filaments in common with humans are said to be useless, no meaningful interaction can take place.

Practical Comment

Needless to say, there are no references to any emanations, or anything like it, from any other sources (that I know of). From a practical point of view, most of this aspect of the castanedian repetoire can be thought of as cosmetica.
