Grand Opening of the library on October 21, 1998.

    The library had been a dream since 1992. We opened our first
public library on January 30, 1995.  The Lemieux's (Lemieux Grocery and Meat)
rented us a two bedroom apartment with a two month free rent to help us
get the library started.  Community members and others gave books.
OLS-North also helped us with Non-Fiction Books. We  then, organized  a group
of volunteers to prepare the books for the shelves.  We had cookie display
boxes to display the children books and borrowed book shelves helped us for
the first week of our opening.  We opened on January 30, 1995, which was 22
days after starting the project with 800 books. Within a week we received
furniture and more books from the Ministry of Education.  For a full year
every week there were changes made at the library.  

    At present we have approximately 10,000 books, seven computers with
Internet (C.A.P.).  In 1994 the Government of Ontario with Government Canada
presented us with the Canada Ontario Infrastructure Works grant.  With many
long volunteered hours we now have a brand new library building to serve our
small community of Alban.
