Liberty Square

Liberty Square takes you back to the early days of the grand United States of America. Ties with Great Britain had just been broken by the signing of the Declaration of Independnce, and Colonists were just getting their first taste of freedom. This land is host to some of the more relaxing aspects of the Magic Kingdom, including The Hall of Presidents, the Liberty Belle Riverboat and the Mike Fink Keelboats. Tucked away in a shady corner, though, is the creepiest attraction Walt Disney World has to offer -- The Haunted Mansion. Er, did I say relaxing?

Trivia:
The Liberty Tree, a large oak in the center of Liberty Square, has 13 mission lanterns hanging from it's branches. These lights represent the 13 original American colonies.

4/9/00: Park News
Liberty Squ. has been recieving a facelift of sorts lately. The latest victims have been the Ben Franklin street entertainer and the Fife and Drum Corps, a popular marching band that has been a tradition at Disney. They were given their pink slips just a couple weeks ago. This is a sign that major changes are in store for this section of the park, which has long been a quiet spot without many major attractions.

The Hall of Presidents
This amazingly lifelike show presents guests with all 42 American Presidents, from Washington to Clinton, as Audio-Animatronic figures. Beginning this superior attraction is a film, narrated by poet Maya Angelou, that discusses the importance of the Constitution of the United States of America. Then the giant screen rises to reveal all of the American leaders, who are spotlighted and called by name, as each waves and nods. Afterwards, both Clinton and Lincoln address the audience. Such detail and technology went into this that the dignitaries actually fidget and whisper among themselves during the show.

4/9/00: Attraction News
It is rumored that this familiar attraction is on it's way out in favor of a 3D movie. HoP has been growing consistently less popular lately, and looks like it's on its way out. Magic Kingdom is currently the only WDW park without a 3D attraction.

Trivia:
The only President to actually record his voice for this attraction was Bill Clinton. (By the way, to the best of my knowledge, the show was not canceled, nor was Clinton's speech taken out, during the impeachment trials.)
The superb Disney Imagineers who designed the Presidents' clothes not only took into account the fashions of each period, but the common fabrics used and the sewing techniques.

Liberty Belle Riverboat
and the
Mike Fink Keelboats
Guests on the Liberty Belle or either of the two keelboats, the Bertha Mae or the Gullywhumper, travel down the Rivers of America, cruising by both Liberty Square and Frontierland attractions. Passengers can see indians and settlers, a perpetually burning log cabin fueled by natural gas, wildlife scenes, and Fort Sam Clemens. The Liberty Belle riverboat is a full-scale replica of one of the mighty three-tiered sternwheelers of the past. In the days of the old west, every river had a boat similar to this. Unfortunatly, the boats in operation in the Disney parks are the only ones of their kind still around today.

Trivia:
Sam Clemens is the real name of the infamous humorist and author Mark Twain.
The burning cabin on the Rivers of America is also visible from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
The riverboat used to be called the Richard F. Irvine in honor of the former head of WED Enterprises (now Disney Imagineering). He was in charge of the design of every one of the Disney parks.

The Haunted Mansion A Fastpass Attraction
999 happy haunts live in this mansion, but there's always room for one more....any volunteers? So begins the eeriest and one of the most frightening Disney rides. Guests board large "doom buggies", a mixed-up nickname for the Disney Omnimover system, which take them on a tour of the deteriorated old manor. This ride is more humorous than frightening, so it's safe for small kids. Even so, there are many surprises and a few scares, making this one of those rare rides that pleases almost all age groups. Now, if you think you're ready, we can ride the Haunted Mansion!

Trivia:
Of the over 999 ghosts living on Mansion grounds, only 109 are accounted for in the attraction. (This is a count of the Audio-Animatronic spooks, not including voices and projections.)
The organ in Disneyland's ballroom scene was actually the organ used in filming 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The one in WDW's ballroom is an exact replica, but is made of plywood and fiberglass, and has no moving parts.

After their country was settled, Early Americans wanted to expand their horizons. They discovered the wild west, which is the basis of Frontierland. So, saddle up and get your six shooters ready, it's going to be a wild ride!
