Magic Kingdom's newest Land, Mickey's Toontown Fair has undergone two major renovations since its debut as Mickey's Birthdayland in 1988. This was created in honor of Mickey Mouse's 60th birthday, and given its own stop on the WDW Railroad. A show took place here, with Mickey as the unsuspecting guest of honor at his very own surprise party. The area was later re-themed as Mickey's Starland, with various Hollywood insignia and kid-sized building facades. The most recent incarnation of the area is themed as a quaint country village during a county fair, with striped fair tents pitched amongst the humble dwellings of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy.
Trivia: Rumors are flying around about the future of this ever-changing Land. Some think it will be updated once again soon to become a replica of Disneyland's Toontown, which is larger than WDW's. It pays homage to all of Disney's animated characters, from Roger Rabbit to Chip and Dale. The classic characters are also represented with their own modern houses.

The Barnstormer at Goofy's Wiseacre Farm
The only ride in this section of the MK, this mini-coaster is popular with young children who don't make the height requirements for the park's other thrill rides. However, it is entertaining enough for even an adult to ride. It is based on a classic Disney cartoon featuring Goofy teaching the basics of flight; each car on the coaster train is designed to look just like the crop duster Goofy pilots in the animated short. The convoy of planes zooms through Goofy's Wiseacre Farm, which is filled with clever sight gags, and right into the side of a barn though a previously made Goofy-shaped hole.
Trivia:
Goofy grows vegetables with a sense of humor at his farm; the squash is flattened out, and his bell peppers are really shaped like bells.
Barging through the barn, the planes upset some nervous chickens, who can be seen from the line clucking and flapping their wings wildly as each roller coaster train rumbles by.
Character Homes
Mickey's Toontown Fair is the home to 4 of Disney's most famous characters: Donald, Goofy, and Mickey & Minnie Mouse (No relation). You've already heard about Goofy's home, now read about where the other three reside. Mickey's Country House is where the most famous mouse of all lives, and provides a rare glimpse into the personal life of this celebrity. Highlights include the viewing of an actual outfit worn by Mickey while judging at the fair, and a walk through his kitchen to see the mess Donald and Goofy have made trying to help redecorate. Out back, there is a personalized garden, filled with Mickey-shaped fruits and vegetables from oranges to pumpkins. From here it's just a short stroll to Minnie's Country House, the dwelling of Mickey's sweetheart. She has made her home fun for kids by making it a playground of sorts, with foam furniture to climb and surprises to find. Her answering machine plays messages from her close friends. One really fun room here is the kitchen, where food is cooking all around and you can peek in the refrigerator to see what Minnie likes to keep stocked up on: her favorite kinds of cheese. Minnie keeps busy these days as an animated Martha Stewart. She is the editor of "Minnie's Cartoon Country Living", and enjoys making crafts and tending to her garden. Down the road is a little blue pond in which Donald's Boat, the Miss Daisy, is docked. Donald is known for being temperamental, though, and has not been patient enough to keep the boat in good shape. The result is a very leaky ship, but also fun fountains that surprise and soak many a guest.
Trivia:
Mickey and Minnie can be met out behind their homes, Mickey in the county fair Judge's Tent, and Minnie strolling through her garden. Donald and Goofy can be seen at the Toontown Hall of Fame.
Toontown Hall of Fame
This is the best place to meet all of your favorite characters. As soon as you step in the door, you will see the line that starts directly to your right. It is divided into 3 sections: Classic Characters (Goofy, Donald, etc.), Winnie the Pooh Characters, and Disney Villains. Throughout the queue, there are interesting bits of trivia to find, and a continuous video shows in the area just before the room where you meet the characters. Each room has 3 characters, each in their own section where you can interact with them and have your picture taken with the background of a county fair.
Trivia:
Characters at Disney are not allowed to speak, but can interact in other ways like blowing kisses and whistling.
The Hall of Fame displays the winning fair entries of many of Toontown's residents.
The line starts in the County Bounty gift shop inside the tent. This seems to be a new trend of Disney's: making it to where you have to pass through the gift shop before going through the attraction. This trend is also practiced at Kilimanjaro Safaris and Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom.
Stepping away from this quaint country dream, you'll find yourself in the midst of a medieval tournament. Fanciful tents and graceful spires beckon you into the storybook world of Fantasyland. | |
