About automating X

The template contains tools that fall into three main categories.

  1. Tools for Bible Study
  2. Tools for Working with HTML
  3. Custom Bibliography Reports

These tools can be accessed via toolbars, menus, or short-cut keys

Bible Study Tools

The Bible Study tools can be divided into types: lookup, search, and access to Series X add-in tools.

These tools are accessible via either the right click short cut menu or the Series X toolbar in MS Word.
By selecting either a verse reference or word in your document and right clicking your mouse you can choose which tool you want to access.

Lookup options include verse, cross-reference, and dictionary lookups. Access to Series X search dialog boxes is also only a right click away. Highlighting a verse reference and right-clicking will also allow you to make use of Series X add-in such as Passage, Word Study &Exegetical Guides, Parallel Version, and Verse in All Versions Tools.

You can also et the your preferred version and style from within word and insert the text of a verse into your document. Set your preferences on the CBV toolbar. Then whenever you want to insert a verse into your document, type the reference, select it and choose insert verse from the right-click short-cut menu or Alt+Q to insert the text of the verse into your document. If you don't select a verse reference. Then the CBV dialog box will open.

The tools are available via the Series X Toolbar or via a right-click short cut macro as can be seen in the screen shot.

HTML Tools

  1. Reformat Note File

This macro is designed to be used with a note file that has been exported from Series X

In Series X, you export the note file using, FILE, EXPORT. What this does is save the file in HTML format. In Word, go to FILE, OPEN and open the html file that you exported from Series X.

When you open he exported HTML file, you will find the notes in a series of tables and other formatting. The macro will remove all table formatting, extra graphics (lines), and convert the text to your default Normal.dot style template.

  2. Reformat Verse List

This macro will open a verse list you have created in Series X, remove all the XML formatting and insert either the list of verses, a list of Bible Hyperlinks or the text of the verses into your Word document. Choose Reformat Verse List from the LDLS toolbar. The open file dialog box will then open. Set file type to all files, then select the verse list you want to insert.

  3. Insert a single Bible Hyperlink*

Insert a single hyperlink to a verse in Series X or a double a hyperlink to Bible Gateway and Series X

  4. Insert Multiple Bible Hyperlinks*

Search through your entire document and replace all verse references with a single hyperlink to a verse in Series X or a double a hyperlink to Bible Gateway and Series X.

Custom Bibliography Reports

The custom bibliography reports allow you view information such as resource id's and resource types. You can include all known resources or limit the report to unlocked or locked resources. You can even print a report listing bibles only. Each report is generated as a separate document so you can print it out or save it for later use. The reports are displayed in a table and as a result you can sort the data in the table based on any column by using the sort command from the table menu.

An additional report - Duplicate Resources on Hard Drive allows you to identify if you have more than one copy of a resource on your hard drive.

Command Bars

Most of the functions of the template are available via the right-click short cut macro. Some of the functions are available from either a toolbar or menu. Toolbars include the LDLS Toolbar which includes most of the main functions, and the Copy Bible Verses Toolbar which allows you to set your preferred version and style from within Word. Whenever you unlock a new bible in your Series X library you will need to rebuild the Series X toolbar so that Word will recognize it. You can do so by selecting the rebuild toolbar option from the LDLS menu.

* at the moment it will not detect a list of bible verses e.g. Mark 3:3;5:8;11:2. In this instance search routine will only identify the reference Mark 3:3. I hope to rectify this in a future version. Also will not find verse references in footnotes/endnotes which I also hope to make functional in a future version.
