With his polite, ever-present smile, Hakkai is the level headed member of the team. A consummate big brother, even fatherly, type, he takes care of Goku with a patience and kindness lacking in Sanzo and Gojyo. Strange as it may seem at a first glance, he is Gojyo's best friend, and the two of them share a very strong bond, drawn together by the violence and sadness of their pasts. Hakkai is also the only member of the team who can speak seriously to Sanzo without having his life threatened, a feat all on its own. In battle he uses very powerful light attacks, although most of his moves are really defensive and non-violent. The deadlier aspects of his power are very guarded and only manifest themselves when something has truly irked Hakkai off. In keeping with his kind personality, he is the healer of the group, and has saved Sanzo [who seems to court death with alarming frequency] from the brink of death at least twice.
