The Drigus Desert
The Kit'Lapar Den!
As you walk around the base of a large dune, you notice the sand becomeing more of a gravel, and then a very hard, packed earth. Once you are on the other side, the desert drifts away into miniature foothills, now only several tens of yards from the cavern wall. It is not flat, but craggy hard sandstone forced to its hardness by the shifting and pressing of the desert sands over time. You see many small crevices and openings in the area, but one stands out. Around its edge are scuff-marks, some of which look very fresh. Claw marks and little footprints in the sand give clues to a canine living in the confines of the cave beyond the pitch-black opening. You stand very still and watch for a while...perhaps the creature will come out if you are patient. So you wait......and, in time, you are not disappointed. You heard small sounds from within the den, sounds of scuffling and sniffing. You here earth move and a small yip sounds, then a touch of color emmerges from the blackness of the stone aperture!
A little fox-like creature emmerges and sniffs the air, staring directly at you, but seemingly unafraid. It takes several steps closer, coming fully into the light, and you see all of its features. It does indeed look like a little black fox! You take in its sleek fur and graceful body, watching it as it sniffs about before settlinng down to return your gaze.
"Didn't your mother teach you it's rude to stare?"
You nearly jump out of your skin when you hear the creature speak! It's voice is deep - the voice of an adult - but it is a bit scratchy and heavily accented, making it sound like a rodent in some kid's cartoon, and it makes you giggle. You ask tenatively what type of creature it is, for it is oddly-colored, and cannot be any normal type of fox! It's answer comes in the same scratching voice. "I am DarkNight," he says, "A Kit'Lapar, distant relative to the foxes you know of. You wonder about me, travelor? I am a wild Kit'Lapar, discovered abandoned by my parents in the wilds of my homeland with my twin sister, DarkLight. My coloring is slightly odd, as most Kit'Lapar have earth-tone brown and white colorings! I think it just makes me more unique!" The little creature trots about in a circle to let you study his sleek, dark fur...
...a bell sounds in the distance.

"Rollcall! I must be running now, travelor, but please do come by another time...I'd love to find out more about you and to just talk!" The little 'Lapar bounces off, a colored flash sprinting through the complex maze of crags that make up the land around you. You watch him until he disappears before you decide to get moving and trek onward..... |
