Mira'Zaithin's Sands
The sand crunches and shifts under your feet, becoming less poundery and moe gravel than real sand. The hard-pack is much easier to walk on, and the stones are smooth underfoot. Two cacti grow severl yards away, with something odd hanging between them. It looks to be a blanket or tarp of some sort. You move closer....
As you cress the hill on which the cacti stand, you see that the tarp forms a miniature pup tent under which an animal could hide from the overwhelming heat of the desert dome. Pearing inside, the sunglare is too much and you cannot see, so you move to within a few feet of the flapping structure. Kneeling on the sands, you feel its considerable heat on your knees, not uncomfortable, but hot none the less. You peer into the tent...
An animal lays on the cooler sands inside the tent, at first facing away from you. You shift again and the sand crunches, bringing the creature around abruptly, startled. "Oh!" the creature's breathing is speeded and his face lights up when he sees you do not threaten him - he is delighted to have a visitor!
Trotting a few staps closer, but not entering the sun, the creature begins his introduction. "Wanderer, I bid you hello....I think I said that right. That is what I was suposed to say. Anyway, Hi! I'm Mira'Zaithin, a Drigus....why do you look confused, travelor? Have you never seen a Drigus? Oh, well then, even if you have, it's important enough to say! A Drigus is a marvelous creature, part horse and tiger and dragon, discovered in Allonia not too long ago. We were endangered then, but captive breeding pragrams have helped a lot!" The animal's voice is still light and shows his youth. The young adult Drigus prances nervously as he speaks. "Gavania is close to Allonia. My bondmate, Azrielen, says that is where my name comes from....it means Dawn Lightning in Gavanian! Oh! I'm sorry! I'm neglecting you! Please, come in and sit out of the sun. Az made me this tent when I was very young because I was too small to be in the full heat all day like the older Drigetti. Even though I'm older now, I still like the tent. It's home!" He leads you inside the tent, which is bigger than you originally though, extending out behind the cacti, creating a good-sized den. Inside the space is clean and clear, except for some food kept in a dry corner in the back, a small photo, and...a painting. Considering it quite odd for a Drigus to have a painting, you ask what it is of.....
| Mir' jumps at the chance to show off the painting and nudges the sand-proof wrapped picture toward you. Opening the wrapping, you pull out a brightly colored frame and a picture that looks like two Drigetti! "See, isn't it lovely!" Mir' jumps with excitement. "That's a picture that my Dad had painted of the two of us! He is a Rainbow Drigus named Talonix. It says he loves me very much. I don't get to see him very often, but we do keep in touch...it's a nice work, isn't it? Thele painted it for us. It looks so real!" You agree with the the Drigus as he leaves to find something, coming back with what looks to be a picture in his teeth. He hands it to you and explains, "This is another picture of me and Dad...it's a photograph the Renee took of us together, with I Love You written on the bottom by Dad!!! I do miss him sometimes...." |  |
You comfort the sadened and wrap the painting up in its package once again. Mir' settles to the sand and tells you of how he came to New Beginnings.... "There was a celebration of sorts. You see, Drigetti used to be an endanged species, but now there are many clutches and herds all across the Networld. This event celebrated the success of the Drigetti program at The Silver Unicorn. All the Silver Unicorn Drigus eggs from across the Networld were gathered in Allonia and adopted out to everyone who came to call, from all different parents! A total of 104 Drigetti were handed out during the three-day celebration known only as The Days. Az trekked to Allonia one week and brought me home about two weeks later, as an egg! I hatched about a week after that, or so I was told. And now here I am!" Mir's tale ends and he jumps to his feet, full of the energy of youth. "I used to say 'Someday I will be a full and mighty stallion!' Now that I am, I don't feel too much different at all! I hope to have a mate someday, when all the Days Drigetti begin to find mates, then Az and I can go in search of one for myself! I don't know many Drigetti outside of here, but Az has been keeping an eye out for me, to see if anyone else likes this place and likes me. I'm not well-knowledged about such things, but Az says I will be someday!" The Drigus smiles then and bids you an awkward farewell, apologizing for ending your stay so abruptly. He says he has to be off to his studies with Qui-Gon, one of the older Drigetti of the Desert. He nickers softly as you ruffle his mane and scratch his ear, smiling cutely and then bounding off into the waving heat of the afternoon desert outside.....
