The Skies
        OPEN AIR

You enter into a bowl-like canyon on top of the mountain you were just in. There is a thin net covering the top of the bowl, held up by no wires or poles you can see. It must be magic. To your left down the long bowl is a planted jungle, from which the caws of exotic birds can be heard. The whole place is swarming with birds of all types, kept in by the magical netting. They fly around you, giving you a close look at them, as you walk to the middle of the bowl.

As you walk, you notice a knight in full armor waiting for you. He seems rather odd, having a sword and all when he is surounded by birds! "Hello," says the knight in a calm Brittish accent. "I know I seem odd here, but guarding these birds is a tough job. You have no idea how many hunters try to steal some of the rarer ones! And cleaning this armor every night is the pits!" You laugh and keep walking, moving farther into the huge bowl to look at the birds.

These three guys are my first three tropical birds. To the left are Jabberwocky and T.J., a pair of best friends like no other. On the left is Friday, the Cockatoo. All three of them share a tree in the jungle portion of our haitat. T.J. considers himself the boss and he's always a little testy. But, don't fret, he's very nice until you pull his tail feathers!

These guys are the resident Eagles, Sunburst on the left, and Loco on the right. Sunburst can barely ever be found on the ground or in a tree. He loves the open air and we sometimes let him out beyond the net to fly higher. Loco is much more content on the earth, being very curious. He explores every nook and cranny of the bowl over and over, looking for hidden treasure a presume!

These two were adopted at The Ark.

This is Flit, the hummingbird. He came to us with the family of Lysithes that reside in The Kennel. He is great friends with them and visits them often. When not flitting from one flower to another, drinking up all the nectar, he llike to play a joke on us by puncking hole in the overhead netting.

Meet Shagadelic, the Psych-owl. She can be a little crazy at times, especially when it comes to hair die - look what she did to her feathers! But, she is very nice, really, and very friendly!

Hiddy Ho, says Zim the Sheri-Bird. He is from our friends at Sherriberry! He's a cute little bird, not very big. He has a beautiful voice though!

Bilbo and Bloom are our Colorful Pets! Bilbo id the first butterfly to reside in The Skies! When he came to us, he brought his parrot friend Bloom along. They are almost never apart and have everything in common! And they definately are colorful!

This heavenly beauty, Helena, is the first swan to ever be adopted and grace New Beginnings with her lovely feathers! She was named for the Greek maiden Helen of Troy, over who's beauty and love the great Trojan War was fought in ancient times. She hatched just as lovely as ever from an egg brought to us by The Silver Unicorn's Mystery Egg Program. We had no idea what she'd be until she hatched! We almost confused her egg for another egg - a dragon's - and put her in a weyr. For all we know she could have be mistaken for a newly hatched dinner!

Here we have one of the first mythical adoptees to come to the skies part of New Beginnings. Zelemron'echa is an odd kind butterfly and somewhat of a free spirit. She just a regular troublemaker! Her wild hairdo and style is the way she loves it and she is no one's butterfly but her own. I think Elton John said the butterflies are free and she all but defineees than statement! But, wildness and trouble aside, she loves everyne and everyone loves her - she addictive almost!

To you left a bush attracts you attention. Odd sounds come from it, low rustling and sharp, quick...chirps? You could go over and investigate the odd bush and its denizen or you could head back toward the Main Floor.....
