Golden Woods
        LIGHT THICKET

You leave the crossroads, stepping into the thicket of brambles. You can make out a distinct path through the thick weeds and vines, but your feet still get caught on the roots that seem to perposefully get in your way. You can't help but thing of the sign's warning - do not touch any of the animals, or jeopardize the purity of their home and magick. Seems a little on the over-precautious side to you, but you decide it would be better to be discreet than face whatever could come of that simple touch.

As you step out of the thicket, yyou come into a bbright clearing. After the darkness of the thicket, sunlight hurts you eyes. You rub them and squint until they come into focus. It is only then that you see what the sign ment. The landscape before you is that of a huge clearing. Tiny hills, small bushes, and animals are all around you, mixing in the sunlight that falls, pouring over everything, like so much gold bullion. All around you is a clea, pure feel to the face, as if no one had been here before you. The animals are not frightened by your precence, but keep right on going about their own lives in the light. Seeing past the sun, you can just make out the other side of the clearing. You continue to look at this darkness as you slowly walk across the clearing.

Animals are moving in the pitch black forest of gold. Leave that seem to be made of the sun itself - gold filigree leaves a sdelicate and beautiful s a spider's web - wave in the breeze, a cool wind even through the sunlight. There must dwell the dark animals. In the Golden Wood where no light enters, not even an odd ray, must live the animals that cannot survive in the sun...the ones maybe with pure blackness, instead of pure light, in their hearts. Then suddenly, from an opening in the trees, a Wizard exits into the light, rubbing his eyes and strutting hurriedly towards you.

"Welcome, welcom to the Golden Wood!" the Wizard says as he appraoches. He is not old, but sports the normal wizard beard that shows he is a mage of the uppermost rank. He continues, "Here are all the mystical denizens of New Beginnings that did not have another place to live - a place more tailored to their needs. But all of them are happy here - all have many friends and ample food and water, plenty of room to play.... Those you see here are the animals of the light and their caretakers. These are those that thrive in the golden beuty of the sun. Other animals that prefer a dim environment live within the wood itdelf, where the foliage is so dense that little light gets through. You may visit them by walking deeper into yon thickets." He points to the dark, moving woods. "The humans that inhabit these woods live in a house just behing the tree line. They are the care takers of this Wood, and all us them, as well as I, Balthazar, wish you a joyous stay." He bows deeply as you walk away to see the life and light that surrounds you.

Meet Zephyr, an alien inhabitant of the Wood. She is the caretaker of the various animals in this clearing. She watches them day and night, because she does not need to sleep, and loves each and every one. She is very magickal - an apprentice mage working with Balthazar to achieve full Mage status. She is good friend and partners with Arion, the Demon Mistress who watches over the animals on the dim side of the thicket. You'll meet her later.
