Arakis' Weyr

The regal white dragon before you is Arakis, a very unusual dragon in that he was born a worm-like creature, not growing his strong limbs or wings until a few weeks after he hatched! Right now, tho he is new, he is well-respected as one of the largest and most powerful dragons in all the Weyrs. He and his new mate, Epsylon, a red and black dragoness in Weyr #91, are prime runners for very high positions in the council of dragons on this island. Arakis is a white, the largest of the males and also the most cunning - the most suited for politics or battle, both of which he enjoys thoroughly. He loves to go on the hunting expeditions just as much as he loves to debate hours on end with his Mistress Azrielen about supply lines or section demands. But he is not a politician, no. He is a simple dragon that enjoys a relaxed life here. He came here as an egg along with his mate. They hatched at almost the same instant, so they've literaly been together since birth - almost 10 years now! Wish them a happy anniversary and go visit lovely Epsylon in Weyr #91.

This little roley-poley is Arakis when he first hatched. When this type of dragon hatches, they are one big fat ball with a head and pointy tail-like thing on their rear. They can't move about until they grow their limbs out of the skin sac they are surrounded in. You see, when they are born, their wings, arms, and legs are not fully developed, so they remain intact under a thick layer of belly-skin until they are ready to emerge. Thus all the babies are little cute wormies like Arakis was. A very unusual type of dragon - the first here at New Beginnings for sure!

This is Arakis as a juvenile dragon, just sprouting his wings. You can see the dragons loose their stripes after the hatchling stage - its a sign of man - or woman - hood for them! He has a perpetually angry look on his face - I guess it's from all the growing pains, because they grow so fast at this stage! You can see he's losing his baby fat and has sprouted all his limbs. This was his most energetic stage and his most unsettling - everything was changing so fast!
