DUBAI - A City that cares

Dubai, in the northeastern United Arab Emirates, is the capital of the state of Dubai and is located on the western side of Dubai Creek.

Known as the Venice of the Gulf, Dubai is the chief port and commercial centre of the country. Oil drilling in the area has largely displaced the traditional occupations of pearl diving, fishing, and camel breeding.

Dubai is a very pleasant city, not only to visit, but also to live in. It has all the modcons of an affluent western metropolis - adequate water, reliable electricity, state-of-the-art communications, well-stocked supermarkets and modern hospitals - and more, like cheap petrol, superb sporting facilities and clubs, and a diverse cultural life. Dubai's credits rise even further because of the features of modern city life which are missing - no air pollution, no traffic jams, no poverty and very little crime. The airport prepares the visitor for one aspect of the country. It epitomises the modern, commercial, hustling bustling Dubai which attracts foreign trade and industry like bees to a honeypot.

Dubai counts on the tourist industry to promote the Emirate to the outside world. Recent events include the World Cup of horse racing and the Dubai Shopping Festival. The Dubai World Trade Center, a 39 storey tower, promotes international business relationships and world trade through hosting various exhibitions and conferences throughout the year.

Cultures & Colour... DUBAI
