The Beginning
"As a student of Astral the wizard, you and your friends study all the usual subjects: reading, writing and sword fighting. Your adventure begins on what is to be your last day of school, not to mention the last time you'll ever see your home, and even the land where you were born.
Dark events are taking place on the island of Grans. The two jewels which seal the Door to Darkness have been stolen from the Ancient Tower. These jewels were the barriers which kept Zeon, a creature of awesome evil power, trapped inside the tower. Finding where the jewels have been taken, and why, is a task that only the bravest of adventurers would dare to undertake."

First of all, you need to give your hero a name. If none is entered, the default is Bowie.
If you want to rename all the Shining Force II characters, put the box cursor on the END character and push START and A simultaneously. If you've done it right, Sarah's icon should come up next.
Then, (finally) you start the game. Go downstairs and talk to your mother. She'll tell you Sir Astral and Sarah are at school. Go to the Granseal school and talk to Sir Astral. Then go take your seat next to Chester.
When Sarah asks you if you want to go to the castle, say yes and go to the castle. Go up the stairs to the left of the throne room. Now you should be in a room. Go up the stairs leading to the right. Go to the Kings bedroom and watch what happens.
Finally, when you're free to move again, go back downstairs and talk to Sir Astral. He'll ask you to go with him to the Ancient Tower. Say yes then go. Before you leave the tower, get the Mithril behind it.
Ancient Tower (1st Battle)
After the battle, go back to the King's bedroom and watch what happens between the King and Sir Astral. After Sir Astral exorcises the King, you'll be asked to go to Yeel. Accept the mission and go buy weapons. Head to Yeel.
Outside Granseal (2nd Battle)
After the 2nd battle, head to Yeel. (You might want to save at the church) Talk to Kazin, who is standing next to the church. He'll take you to Hawel's house. Go past the church. You should have exited Yeel through the back.
Outside Yeel (3rd Battle)
Go north and find where the ocean and the mountains meet. There, you shall find Hawel's house. Enter it and see what happens. Make sure you check the chests for goodies. After the soldiers leave, then go outside.
Outside Hawel's House (4th Battle)
After you defeat your enemies, Lemon will order his soldiers to knock you out.
You and the rest of the Force are locked in the Galam prison. When you finally wake up, sit next to Jaha and listen. Slade will pick the locks and you'll be set free. Search the table behind the old man to find the Chirrup Sandals.
Then proceed out to the exit to the left of the cells. Slade will show you a shortcut. Go down the hole and left to a ladder. The ladder should lead you to a room of barrels. Go up the stairs in this room and up another set of stairs. Listen to what King Galam and Lemon are saying. After they've finished, descend into the room they (Lemon and Galam) just occupied. You'll be caught by one of Galam's men.
Galam Castle (5th Battle)
After the battle, be sure to restock your weapons. Explore the town and then leave.
Outside Galam (6th Battle)
Before you go to the Granseal castle, check out the all the houses.
Go past the pet shop and across the bridge. There should be a tiny house with Kiwi the Tortoise in it. Go up to him and talk to him. You'll get to name him. After he joins, proceed to the castle. After you get through to the King's bedroom, follow Astral into the Ancient Tower.
Ancient Tower (7th Battle)
After failing to save Elis, you must run out of the Tower (go the same way you came in). Check out the hole; there's a Mithril there!
Exit the castle and go through the hole in the school to the docks. Make sure you say yes when they ask you if you're ready. (I'd recommend searching the ship as there is a Quick Chicken in one of the barrels) Sir Astral will ask you if you're ready to leave. Say yes and the ship will leave port. Granseal then will fall into a giant chasm.
When you're on the ship, listen to the dialogue. You will eventually dock on Parmecia. After the ship lands, take the plank up onto the deck. A boy will ask you to help his friend who got left behind. You will be led to North Cliff, where his friend is being held captive by the devils.
North Cliff (8th Battle)
After the battle, return to where the ship docked. It will be transformed into a village.
One Year Later....
The new town of Granseal has been completed. Go to the castle and talk to people there. Go to the town area and you should find a group of people watching a big bird. (No, not like in Sesame Street....). There is a hole in the crowd, position yourself there and listen to what happens. Watch carefully!!
Afterwards, go back to the castle. You'll be asked to escort Peter home to Bedoe and to find other towns to trade with. Take a trip by the weapons shop and head east of the town.
Note
Until Peter joins the Force, you can't control him in battle, even if you did the control opponents code.
Outside Ribble (9th Battle)
Continue into Ribble. Go to the house north of the entrance. This is the mayor's house. They will mistake you for a devil. Peter will explain that you are not devils. At that point, you can explore the town.
You might want to search the town! Afterwards, pay a trip to the weaponry shop and follow the river east.
Halfway to Mt. Volcanon (10th Battle)
Continue east until you come to a bridge. Do NOT cross this bridge!!! Head north of the bridge till you reach a second bridge. Cross it and go west.
The Hobgoblin's Cave is a hole in the gray mountains.
Hobgoblin's Cave - In Darkness (11th Battle)
Exit the cave in the upper-right-hand corner and head west to Polca village. Stop at the weapons shop and re-equip. Head northeast in the village. A boy named Oddler should appear. Find the house where Oddler is lying in bed and talk to the Mayor. Exit the village (towards Mt. Volcanon) and you should be in the next battle.
Mt. Volcanon (12th Battle)
Next, continue into Bedoe. Make sure you explore this town thoroughly, as there are several secrets here. When you're all through, talk to the king on the third story. After your conversation, go with Peter to Volcanon's Shrine.
Volcanon expresses his anger at the ground-dwellers. He will withdraw all his protection and Peter will join.
Go back to King Bedoe. He will make a raft prepared for you. Before you leave Bedoe, stand in the bushes outside Bedoe and Skreech (the small chick) will fall on your head. (for more detailed instructions and screenshots, click here) Then return to Polca village, where you'll find devils waiting.
Polca Village (13th Battle)
After defeating the devils, speak with the Mayor. You must talk to him four times. He will give you the raft and beg you to take Oddler with you. Oddler will tag along no matter what, so you can get creative.
Board the raft and go south through the tunnel. You will appear in the tunnel immediately south of Ribble. Proceed south.
Once you reach the cave to the south of the tunnel, there will be a fork in the river. Go east. Follow the river until you see gray mountains on your right. Exit the raft and head southeast. You will walk into the next battle.
