Chapter 3: The Mystery of the Triforce
Link is sitting on the back of a horse drawn cart, travelling through Hyrule Field.
Link: ..it's so big!
Navi: It's lucky we met this cart, hey, Link?
Link looks around.
Link: so.. we go to the castle, and meet Princess Zelda?
Navi: That's right. And we give her the spiritual stone.
The driver of the cart (Talon ) turns around to tell Link and Navi that they've arrived at Hyrule Castle Town. Link looks up in wonder as they cross the drawbridge into the town.
Inside the market, Link looks around, amazed.
Link: Wow... there's so many people!! Is this the "world"? And.. there are so many buildings!! Navi.. which one is the 'castle'?
Navi: Um... ^_^;;
Suddenly, Link notices what the stalls in the Market are actually selling...
Link: Huh? Food?! ..I'm suddenly really hungry..
Navi: Be strong, Link. Have some of this Milk..
Link dives into the food.
Link: This is a hundred times more delicious than nuts and fruit!
Suddenly, Link is surrounded by intimidating-looking shopkeepers.
shopkeepers: Hey, little brat.. you need to pay us money.
Link (with half a bread roll stuffed in his face, very cute ): Money? What's that..?
The shopkeepers pick him up, yelling "Brat! You thief!"
At the edge of the crowd, a young girl notices the commotion.
One of the shopkeepers finds the Kokiri Emerald that Link is carrying.
Shopkeeper: Hm.. this is a pretty thing you have, isn't it.
Link: Hey! Give it back! Give it back!!
Shopkeeper: I'll give it back when you pay me money.
Link: Give it Back!!
Suddenly, the young girl appears.
Girl: I will pay the money. Please give back his stone.
The shopkeepers are stunned.. "200 Rupees?!"
The girl and Link use the distraction to escape.
Link: Who are you?
Girl: We had better hurry.
They stop at the fountain in the market, Link sitting on the edge.
Girl: So, you're a person from the forest?
Link: Yeah. (holding up the Kokiri Emerald) Thank you.. this is a very precious thing.
Girl: It's a pretty stone
Link: It's the Kokiri Emerald. The Deku Tree said to take it to Princess Zelda.
Girl: Hm...
Link jumps off the fountain.
Link: So, I have to go to the Castle. See ya!
Girl: But, if you go all on your own, you probably won't be able to get into the castle. They have very strict security.
Link: ?! What's this, Navi?
Girl: .... Hey, will you play with me for just one day, today? And then I'll take you to Princess Zelda's place.
Link: Really??
The girl winks.
Girl: I'm very good friends with that girl. Look, here's proof.
She holds up..
Link: And Ocarina? And what's this mark..?
Suddenly, the girl notices something, and ducks down behind the side of the fountain to hide.
Impa walks up to Link, who is now standing at the fountain alone.
Impa: Little boy, have you seen a well dressed young girl? Blonde, with blue eyes.
Link: Um.. I dunno.
Impa walks away to look somewhere else.
Girl: Thanks.
She grabs Link's arm, and drags him away towards another section of the town.
Girl: Okay, let's go! There are some interesting looking shops over here.
The girl runs off to a shop to buy something, and Navi flies over to Link's ear.
Navi: Hey, Link, are you okay? This kid is a bit weird..
Link: But, she said she could take us to Princess Zelda. And.. she's pretty cute!
Navi: -_-;;
The Girl returns.
Girl: Here, I bought these ^_^
She's holding a huge, and I mean HUGE, bag of "Goron Manjuu." A 'manjuu' is a type of Japanese sweet, made from rice and bean paste or something, if I remember right. The ones that the girl has bought look like little Goron heads (and look pretty funny, too ).
Link: !?!
Navi: ^_^;;
As Link staggers under the weight of the huge bag, the girl blushes, explaining that the man at the shop had said she was a cute little girl.
Later on, Link and the girl reach a sign.
Girl: "Bombchu Bowling" ..what's bowling?
Link: I don't know, either.
They go inside.
A Bombchu explodes, sending charred Cuccoos flying. The girl behind the counter is snoring, as usual.
Girl: Yeah! This is fun!
As they play, Link asks the girl about Zelda.
Link:So, what sort of person is Princess Zelda? Is she pretty?
Girl: Yeah.
Link (to Navi): Hehe.. I bet this girl is really ugly compared to Zelda!
The girl overhears, though, and "accidentally" sends her next Bombchu in the wrong direction.
As Link stands all charred and dizzy from the Bombchu, the girl at the counter wakes up just enough to ask, half asleep, "So.. so you want to play again?"
Next, Link and the Girl go to the mask shop, and then the shooting gallery. When they come outside, it's dark.
Link: That was lots of fun. Huh? It's night time? That was fast..
Girl: Well.. one day has finished. Thank you for today.. Just for once, I wanted to buy things with money by myself, and play..
..the same as a normal girl.
Link: Could.. could you tell me your name? I'm Link. We'll play together again sometime.
The girl looks surprised.
Girl: I..
but she is cut off, as suddenly three women with their faces covered by cloth masks appear out of nowhere. They have strange crystals on their foreheads, and are carrying curved and nasty-looking swords.
Link: Who.. who are you?!
The leader points with her sword.
Leader: Girl.. I know who you really are. Give us the Ocarina of Time!
The girl tries to run away.
Leader: You won't get away!
She swings her sword at the girl, but
Link blocks it.
Leader: Who's this?
One of the other women whispers to her, "Someone's coming!"
All of a sudden, the three women run off. Link runs after them
Link: Hey, wait!!
Impa appears behind the girl.
Impa: Princess.
The girl (Zelda ) turns around, and smiles.
Zelda: Impa.
Impa: It's good to see you're okay.. let's return to the castle.
Zelda nods.
Link returns to find the place deserted.
Link: Huh? That girl is gone..
Navi: She probably went home.. girls have strange minds.
Suddenly, Link notices that the Ocarina the girl had is lying on the ground.
Navi: Let's go to the castle, Link.
Link (thinking): This is similar to the Ocarina I got from Saria.. but somehow different.
The next morning, Zelda is following her father down one of Hyrule Castle's corridors.
Zelda: Father! Father, I beg you. Don't go and meet that man.
The King: Are you talking about your dreams again?! Bah. This is a time of facts and information, not feelings and ideas.
Zelda stops, giving up. She watches as her father keeps walking.
Meanwhile, Link climbs up some vines on the side of the Castle. Sneaking past some guards, he runs into the Castle's inner courtyard. Zelda is standing at the far end, with her back to him.
Link: Um..
Zelda: Link. I haven't yet told you my name..
She turns around.
Link: You.. you're..
Zelda: I am Zelda, Princess of Hyrule.
Link stands there, shocked.
Navi: Link!
Link: Oh, right..
He rummages around in his pocket, and pulls out the Kokiri Emerald. He also gives back the Ocarina.
Link: Oh yeah.. and this. You dropped it when you escaped yesterday.
Zelda takes the Ocarina, and Link comments that he's surprised Zelda was silly enough to drop it. Zelda looks a little annoyed
Suddenly, Ganondorf walks into the courtyard.
Ganondorf: So this is Princess Zelda.. I came here to meet with your father.
Zelda: Lord Ganondorf, you are not permitted to enter this courtyard!
Ganondorf: Please excuse me. I am honoured that we are a part of the kingdom of Hyrule. No country is as beautiful as this one. And the Princess is very beautiful, too.
Zelda is not impressed.
Zelda: Don't try to flatter me. Go away!
Link looks at Zelda. Ganondorf bows, and starts to leave.
Ganondorf: Oh, by the way.. I heard that the Royal Family of Hyrule has a treasure, the Ocarina of Time.. and that the Princess has that treasure. Won't you please show it to me?
Zelda's face goes blank.
Zelda: I don't know what treasure you're talking about. I heard the same thing from some bandits yesterday.. were they friends of yours?
Ganondorf says nothing. Link looks at him, and Ganondorf looks back. They hold each other's gaze for a while, then Ganondorf turns and leaves.
Zelda: That's Ganondorf. He's the leader of the Gerudo, who live in the desert in the far West. His real goal is the Triforce, that rests in the Sacred Realm of Hyrule.
Link: The Triforce?!
Link (thinking): That's that thing that the Great Deku Tree was talking about..
Zelda and Link sit on the steps in the courtyard.
Zelda: I've been having dreams.. In my dream, black, scary clouds descended upon Hyrule. But, a single ray of light pierced through the clouds to shine upon the ground.
In that ray of light, I saw a figure, accompanied by a fairy, and carrying a stone shining with a green light..
Link: A Fairy, and a stone... (me?)
Zelda: As soon as I first saw you, I understood that you were the figure in my dreams. I'm scared.. I know that the black clouds in my dream represent Ganondorf. He wants to get to the Sacred Realm, and destroy Hyrule.. I can feel it. But, when I tell my father, he doesn't believe me.
Link: I believe you. That evil power was what killed the Great Deku Tree.
Zelda: We must not let Ganondorf get the Triforce.
Link: But, where is the Triforce? And where is the Sacred Realm?
Zelda: The entrance to the Sacred Realm is in the Temple of Time.. but it is sealed shut by a stone wall. To enter, it is said that you must gather all three Spiritual Stones and take them to the Temple.
But, there is one more thing that is necessary. The Royal Family's treasure.. this, the Ocarina of time.
Zelda holds up the Ocarina. Link looks determined.
Link: So, there are two more Spiritual Stones.. I'll go and get them!
Zelda: Link!
Link: Zelda, you stay here and look after the Ocarina. I will go and get the other two stones, and bring them back here.
Zelda smiles.
Zelda: Link.. protect the Triforce from the hand of Ganondorf!
