seems to me like you could almost compile a
separate list of banned/altered/withdrawn toilet-themed covers ...
Luckily, as a society we appear to have come a long way in terms of public sensitivities in this particular area. Still, it's hard to imagine anyone even blinking at the original cover Smash Records slapped on Asylum Choir's debut album. It may have been tasteless and certainly wasn't a great concept for selling an LP (nice going there Smash marekting department). Needless to say, back in 1968 the situation was a little different. Confronted with the resulting public uproar and distributors threats not to stock the album, Smash Records was forced to pull the original cover in favor of a more palitable photo of Leon Russell and Marc Benno. Personally, I'd rather stare at the original cover then the boring group shot replacement. Oh well ... |
