The "Badlands" Attica, Indiana
Page 4
The next day dawned wet still. We overslept (doh!) and so
missed meeting up with the Sammi guys, which turned into a
stroke of good luck. Their trail leader was pretty content
just to take them past all the challenging stuff, then stop
at an easy obstacle and tell them to go play on it.
The trail leader we wound up with was just the opposite.
His name was JB, from the Wabash Valley Trailblazers Club,
and he knew the area well. He took us over, under, through,
and in every difficult area he could find in his well built
CJ-5 with buggy leaf suspension.
There were about 12 vehicles in our group, and I was asked
to bring up the rear, since I had lockers, mud tires, and
a CB. It was quite the mish-mash group: a CJ-3A, two full
size blazers, 3 CJ-5s, a full-size Chevy pickup, a TJ, two
very well built XJs (Wranglers, "square headlites"), and me.
As I was to learn later, when we were lining up, a passenger
in the TJ remarked to the driver: "What in the world are
they doing bringing a Samurai on this trail run?" To which the
driver retorted: "You just wait and see".
