1998 Trip To Honeyman State Park
Catjoker, Magic, and I
took a 3 day camping trip to Honeyman State Park on the Southern
Oregon dunes. We took off from Portland at 5:00 Sunday morning on
Oct. 25th 1998. When we arrived at the park we noticed dome
shaped buildings at some of the camp sites. They are called
Yurts. Upon further investigation we discovered that for an extra
$10.00 a night we could stay in one of these, so we did.It was
much better than sleeping in tents as it had a heater, a lamp,
and electricity. This was our first trip to the Oregon Dunes
Recreational Area. The only other dunes we had played on were at
Sand Lake. The dunes here beat Sand Lake hands down. During our
first excursion I hit a whoop-dee-doo harder than I meant to.
Magic was beside me and after I landed and stopped to check for
damage he congratulated me on what he said was a perfect jump. He
said I caught about 10 feet of air!! Naturally there are no pics
of that jump. I didn't attempt any more jumps until Monday.

This was a practice
jump. I wanted to make sure it was sane before hitting the
"launching pad" harder.

Same "launching
pad" but faster approach. Proof positive that Baja Bugs can
fly.

...3,2,1, LIFTOFF!! My front tires were already off the ground before I reached the top of the hill!!

Different
"launching pad" with good speed on the approach. This
was the most extreme jump I made.

This is the Yurt we stayed in.
Not really roughing it, huh?

While were we taking it easy I
fell into this hole while leading the way. Catjoker was behind me
and said that I disappeared except for my flag. It stopped and
then came back about 10 feet. If I had been going faster I
probably would have cleared it. The impact was hard enough that
my foot bent the gas pedal and the cable pulled loose. I was able
to drive out, but not without the help of Catjoker. He operated
the throttle from behind Benny while I operated the clutch and
transmission. It was really something to see!!

Same hole, different angle.

Just playing around.

Still playing around.
