One of the legacies of being on the old world Spice Route, Kerala still uses the old Chinese fishing nets. They are huge - you get a sense of scale looking at the two figures perched on them in this picture. They are lowered into the water, and when lifted, ought to be full of fish. THe backwaters are dotted with them along their length.
