News about Joan Balcells

Monday March 12, 2001:

Just like Joan himself told us (sorry for using bolds, but we're very glad he sent us that email) he is not taking part at Indian Wells. Some Spanish players that will do are Fernando Vicente (he faces our well-known Woodruff), Álex Calatrava (against Ivanisevic), Pato Clavet, who must be very happy because he won Scottsdale tournament (Arizona) last week, he defeated Magnus Norman in the final, Charlie Moyá against Chang, Juanqui who gets directly into second round, and last but not least our beloved Álex Corretja, who defens the title. This is a tournament full of Spanish boys, let's see if they are more lucky than our girls that they all have been beated.

Indian Wells will count on a lot of known players for Spanish people: there will they be Gambill, Kafelnikov, Rafter and Schalken, for example. Draws are very impressive, it can be seen this is the first Masters Series of the year.

More, we bring up to you fresh information about Conde de Godó which will be organized in the RCT from Barcelona next April 21-29, and it is about getting the tickets, they will be start being saled today. We hope you could have put aside more money than us, ha ha, in what it respects to me I like tennis a lot but I must decide between Godó and my Easter holidays. You can imagine, I cannot get everything (I could abuse my parents, but I'm too old to keep doing it!). For those who are luckier, this is what there is:

Tickets can be got via phone, calling to 902 33 22 11, or via Internet: http://www.lacaixa.com. If anybody can assist please send us the match chronicles or something, I think I will not be patient enough to follow them via Internet knowing they are playing "just" 700 km away from me.

At last, Portaltenis team has apologized for that Joan's report issue. I think we had to tell you about it, just like we did when they copied our picts and so.

I know I promised that Portaltenis task was the last thing I wrote in here, but it happens that while I updated the site I've seen a TV advert made by Ferrero, about bananas from Canary Islands, it is so funny! They should have contacted with Joan for the same thing, while Ferrero played against Sluiter in Eindhoven we could see Joan on TV doing the same ha ha.

Thursday March 8, 2001:

Joan has sent us an e-mail to tell us what it happened yesterday with their match, they had to leave it because of the huge hurts Joan had in his feet due to the heat in Florida, and could not be possible for him going on with the match. He does not know wether he will be able to take part at Indian Wells or not (in which case he will take a rest in Miami for a week), but he hopes to be available for Key Biscaine.

Nobody can complain about us uh?, this is what I call "prime line" information. Let's see is Portaltennis doesn't copy our information this time.

We still cannot offer you Vero's chronicle, and we cannot tell you exactly what has happened today in Delray Beach, we just can say that Joan and Nico have lost the match by 3-6 and 1-2! That is, either the match has been delayed -something quite improbable-, or any of our players has broken down. This is how we have lived it:

At 20:16 (Spanish time) has just started Joan and Nico's doubles match (this time he plays at a time we can follow via Internet). You can see live scores in tournament's site, Citrix Tennis Championships, click over "LIVE!" option in the menu on the left, they play in court n. 4. It is very stressing following a tennis match this way, but you know the final results before anyone else ;-). Last time my internet link broke down they were doing 2-2 in the first set, each one won their serve.

(This is the time when I have updated the news)

Oh my god, it's 22 minutes since the match started and our boys do already have 2-5 against them a miracle please! We cannot leave a moment, we are in minute 32 and the first set finished, 3-6.

The first game in the second set appears in the live score with 30-30, Joan and Nico serve. 40-40... oh my god this is suffering... advantage for Joan and Nico... yeeeahhh they win their serve. I don't like they to suffer so much to win their games. The 1-1 is very short, this wonderful web organization doesn't allow us to see it. Ours serve for 2-1: 0-15, 0-30, 15-30, 15-40, uuhhh, 30-40... pleeeasseee... 1-2.

And here it is where our total unknowledge starts, because from now on this is how the live score remains:

I have been waiting for a long time until I have been told that match had finished and that win was for Franklin and Oliver. We're sorry we cannot tell you more, we'll write you when we know something.

One more thing: it may not be important for you, but we're very ungry with the Spanish site Portaltenis, because "they have made" a report about Joan that is completely based in this site, they have even reply comments on picts and they do not mention us at all. We've sent them some mails to complain, we'll tell you what happens with this.

Tuesday March 6, 2001:

Well, Joan did play his match and he lose it. I begin to think that this boy is very influenced by Davis Cup: he wins aussies, loses against oranges. That about Gambill is a different task, the boy is very obsessed with Joan. It is not only losing against a Dutch player, but also tie-breaks!!!! This is very strange... Here you have Vero's chronique (she's going to place a bed next to her desk ha ha):

I do not really know how the match has been because this markers do not work too good... it is not too much time since I got up but after 15 minutes trying this to work ok I find Joan has lost the first set in the tie-break by 7-2, and they are doing 5-5 in the second one... The Dutch serves and Joan starts very well 0-30, but this orange gets over and wins his serve (6-5). It's time Joan to serve and he wins it blank... we do have a nice tie-break again. Kempes serves... 0-1 for Joan, we start ok, 1-1, 2-1 we're getting worse... 2-2, 3-2, let's see if Joan gets over 3-3, 4-3, it seems that not and this guy is going to make us real pain... we keep on with this 4-4, 5-4 this does not seem to be our day 5-5, 6-5, a miracle please 7-5, there has been no miracle.

I'm telling you it is 4:06 a.m. and no, I'm not crazy but I promised I would do this chronicle and I thought things were going to be better...

Now you will all understand why I told you about buying a bed to this girl uh? There will not be said we're not good fans. People complain about tournament's site, it seems to be quite uncomfortable and takes much time to load. Well, for better or worse it only rests cheering doubles... Come on along with Nico!

Monday March 5, 2001:

Joan will play tonight his first match in the Citrix Tennis Championships in Delray Beach (Florida, USA), he faces the Dutch Edwin Kempes in court number 4. In fact this is not real true, because it will be the thirth match after 5 p.m. according to the timetable round there, so we think our commentator will be able to bring to us a new chronicle :-P.

In what it respects to doubles, his parter will be Nicolás Lapentti (Equator) again (between all of us he is getting the nick of Nico), they are facing Cary Franklin and Graydon Oliver.

March 3 2001:

San José Open,
All the media has coincided in qualifying as an effect blow the victory of Joan over Philipoussis, recent winner of the tournament of Memphis, by 6-4 6-7 and 7-6. However the one that waited him in the following round was Terrible Gambill that has won him again and again for a hideous 6-2 and 6-0!. Be not discouraged Joan that you may face him next week...

Yes, because this boy follows his American tour in the Citrix Tennis Championships in Delray Beach, in which Charlie Moyá will take part and oh my god, Jan-Michael Gambill too. One day there are going to be more than words in the tennis court ha ha.

Nothing else to say, I hope you excuse me but I am in Oviedo (Asturias, Spain) this weekend on holidays. Don't make any complain, I have not taken my cup of cofee to update the web ;-).

March 1 2001:

We already have information on the first beat of San José's tournament. The first news is bad, because Joan lost his doubles match against Gambill and Stark by 6-3 6-7 and 6-3. This Gambill is beginning to transform a little into his black beast, yes was rabid the boy for that of Santander...

The second news is good, and it is that he has won the singles match, here you have our usual commentator's chronicle:

Both players are doing a good works in this first set... in these moments J. Acasuso is serving for the 5-5 and Joan has had some advantage to break him the serve and to get the first tet but he has wasted it. Good, after all this and the 5-5, it's time Joanet to serve and he gets his service. Acasuso takes out, let's see if he gives us a surprise... do you like me to tell you how this game is doing?? 0-15, 0-30 how well Joan!!! Acasuso recovers 15-30, 15-40, 30-40 and yeeeahh first set for Joan by 7-5.
The second set has begun very well, 1-0, 2-0 and 3-0, how well there are going things today. It's tike Acasuso to take out... 0-15, this is ok... oh no java marker has broken down for some minutes, so we are in the 3-1 for Joan and 15-0... good 40-0 while I write it and yes 4-1. The Argentinean takes out and we already go 15-40... Joan is playing like a genious.... 5-1 girls!. Good that this finishes, Joan has won 6-1 this second set and the match is for Joan!!!

Thank you Vero!

One more thing, we are the WEBMASTERS OF THE MONTH, yupiiii!!! in http://www.tennisinternet.com. There you can find a small interview with all of us, and a picture of the mine. We are in the main page :-) in yellow!. Due to this are accelerating the process of translation to English, sorry for the mistakes and so they are due to our hurry!.

Joan will play today against Mark Philippoussis (n. 3), GOOD LUCK BOY!
