Thank you, © Barb's Hideaway I love this effect and it coordinates perfectly with your web page graphic because it uses your graphic for the colors in the background. Also, it is so easy :-) For this tutorial, you will need Jasc Paint Shop Pro. You can download a trial version here. For the special effect you will need the Fun House filter called Twister. It is a free plug-in and you can download it here. (The original download site is off-line, but I found a download at this other Twister tutorial.) To make your background into a seamless tile, you will need the Simple plug-in filter called Quick Tile, available free here. (If you have trouble installing the plug-ins, please read here or here.) Finally, you will need a graphic to work with. For purposes of doing this tutorial, you may use the graphic I am using. Just save it to your hard drive. ![]() Step 1 Open the graphic in PSP. Shift-D to make a copy of it. Close the original and work with the copy. Step 2 I prefer using a square graphic for a background, instead of a rectangular one, so let's crop the graphic into a square. Use the selection tool, selection type: square, and start in the lower right-hand side of the graphic and move up as far to the top and left without exceeding the left-hand border. Release the mouse and go to Image > Crop to Selection. You should now have a square graphic that looks like this: ![]() Step 4 To use the plug-in filter, select Effects > Plug-in Filter > FunHouse > Twister. Adjust the "twistiness" by moving the slider. Move it all the way to the right for maximum twist! I selected 200. Then select Ok. Step 5 To make a seamless tile out of this, select Effects > Plug-in Filters > Simple > Quick Tile, and then Apply. You've made your background! ![]() The completed background (as used on this webpage). Step 6 (Optional) If you prefer a muted background, go to Layers > Promote to Layer. Then go to the Layer Palette and slide the transparency to 50% or less, and then Layers > Merge > Merge All (Flatten). ![]() Muted background at 50% transparency. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
