The Missing Peace |
President Mrs Chrissoula Varveri-Varra My invitation arrived in July, and I was helped by the Mildura Arts Council to attend. They paid my airfare, my garage Mechanic, a friend in Gloucester, UK and my parents helped me with the expenses. My parents reminded me I had spent my third birthday in Athens, when my family visited, on our way to spending a year in Reading, England. Now I have also spent my 24th birthday there, having been invited to this marvelous event. Getting my medal was a real buzz. The Greek are such giving people, my only wish is that I could spend more time there. The plan is... I will be back. |

Do the marbles still remember The fall of chisels on their hide On those so beautiful in number Where Socrates and Plato confide Do the pillars still remember The words so etched in history? From their eternal slumber We still tell their story Does Dionisis' theatre know The plays therein performed And those who watched the show When the Acropolis was stormed We are the Olive berries Descended from this zone Our culture allways carries The words heard by the stone Even today the minds unite To build and grow and sow We learn together from the plight To know where we're to go |
