Note 1 - Original (OEM) Power Stick charger is designed to be a smart fast charger (i.e. 3 to 4 hrs). As the Power Stick battery ages (after 1 to 2 years) the internal resistance of the cells in the pack starts to increase and the original charger will no longer charge the Power Stick properly, rendering the pack to give poor performance. This problem can usually be overcome to extend the life of the pack significantly by using our over-night constant-current slow charger, which ignores the higher internal resistance of an aging battery pack.
Note 2 - Our experience has shown that 80% of power stick batteries that come to our shop have a broken connection and the performance of the battery is still to spec. If your battery was less than 3 - 4 years old when it lost power, or if it works intermittently now, a broken connection is the problem.
Note 3 - Many of our customers have opted for having their 7.0 Ah "cow bell" battery converted to Lead Acid format instead of NiCd or NiMH. The advantages to this are many. Never worry about "memory effect" again. In fact, battery can be put on charge at any point of discharge without a problem. Cost to re-cell in Lead Acid is usually 1/4 the cost of the other formats. TRIMBLE has already gone to the Lead Acid format for some years now.
