The name Easter comes from the Teutonic goddess of spring: "Eostre" or "Ostra".
This is why it is represented by rabbits, hares and eggs (birth of life) and by flowers, leaves, grass (birth of nature).

They are a symbol of creation, of new life and fertility. The rabbits and hares are the emblem and the sacrificial animals of "Eostre".

Christian tradition

It is the greatest of all Christian festivals. It celebrates the resurrection of Christ from the dead which occurred during the spring feast of ¨Passover¨or ¨Pesach¨(origin of the word “Pâques” or “Pascuas”).

Catholics go to church because it is a holy day.
The churches are decorated with evergreens (symbols of eternal life), flowers in pink, purple, yellow and white (Easter colors)

When is Easter celebrated?

It is a lunar festival, it occurs on the first Sunday after the 14th day of the calendar moon on March 21st. So, Easter can be between March 22nd and April 25th.

The origin of the name of the state of Florida: The Spanish Conquistadors landed in Florida on “Palm Sunday” (a week before Easter Sunday) and called it “Pascua Florida” (“Floral Easter”) and named the new territory for the religious feast.
