1996 |
-Ken
comes up with plans for a 1 on 1 touchfootball league called the AFL
(Ameuter Football League)
-The master plan included 13 teams including the Sparrows, Dragons,
Melody, and Celts
-First Team Jersey is made- Sparrows |
1997 |
-The
League plans out a schedule for all 4 teams that included playing
everyone twice on a home and away field
-All teams received first jerseys
-On June 19, 1997, the Sparrows host the Dragons on the current BFL
site. This became the first ever BFL game as the Sparrows pick off
quarterback Jason twice to win the game 42-21.
-On June 23, 1997, the Melody host the Celts in the only game not
played on the Battle Field. Ken quarterbacks the game as the Melody
defear the Celts 42-35.
-No more games were played |
1998 |
-The
League, now renamed, BFL (Beginners Football League) decides to
try out the league again. Each team would play only 3 games all
on the current BFL site.
-First BFL site is launched
-On June 24, 1998, the Celts and Dragons played on one of the hotest
days in BFL history. They tie 35-35.
-The Sparrows take a 20 point lead on the Celts with 3 interceptions.
Howie comes back to tie the game as time expires.
-The game clock is reduced from 6 minute quarters to 5 minute quarters.
-The Melody defeat the Dragons 25-0 by forfeit when Rich was unable
to attend. This forfiet allowed the BFL to move on with it's season
without dely. It also broke the streak of three ties in the first
3 games of 1998.
-On July 9, the first All-Star game took place. Adam filled in for
the Dragons. This was the first filmed BFL game. The South toped
the North 63-56.
-Adam played for the Dragons against the Sparrows. Ken won 84-77
but Adam impressed.
-The Dragons defeat the Melody 14-0 in a game with two 2 minute
halves in the first ever BFL playoff game.
-August 16, 1998- BFL Bowl I- Sparrows vs. Dragons. The game goes
back and forth throughout. The Sparrows hold onto a 70-63 lead as
time expires to win. At half time, the Celts were awarded with the
first ever MVP trophy, which was renamed in his honor to the "GoGo"
award. Howie annouced the retiring of the Celts from the BFL. However,
he would become the perminate automatic quarterback. Adam also announced
that he will have a BFL franchise, named the Koala.

1999 |
-New
ruels: Each team gets 6 time outs per half, 3 downs to get a first
down, 4 minute quarters, top two teams go to BFL Bowl
-New BFL site is made
-Slogan: BFL is better than ever
-The Koala join the BFL
-The BFL displays flags at each game for each team.
-July 1: Sparrows and Dragons score highest point total in a BFL game
in 90-87 Sparrows victory.
-All-Star Game II is played as the North edge the South on a last
second field goal.
-New rule added- Clock runs 5 seconds after touchdown and 8 after
field goal.
-July 26-Koala win first game on Throwoff Return as time expires to
beat the Dragons 73-69
-August 4: Sparrows beat the Dragons in BFL Bowl II to cap off 4-0
undefeated season. The Koala won the MVP award.
-John and Aaron are granted BFL teams. |
2000 |
-Photo
Day I takes place during the offseason
-For the first time, 6 teams would compete in the BFL. The Black Knights
and Mustangs are to join the four teams from 2000.
-Dragons get new logo.
-3 point conversion is added.
-Playoffs are expanded back to top 4 teams
-Overtime Challenge is created (2 extra points, 2 two point conversions,
1 three point conversion).
-June 6: Black Knights make impressive debut against Dragons with
4 Throwoff returns in a 76-66 victory
-June 19, 2000- BFL BBQ and All Star Game III take place. South takes
out the North on Jason's game winning catch as time expires.
-July 9: Black Knights clinch South Division with a 65-65 tie with
the Sparrows
-July 12-Koala uses 23 plays to score a touchdown against the Black
Knights. Adam clinches a playoff spot in a a 28-24 loss.
-July 28: The Melody capitalize on the 3 sided box defense to clinch
first BFL Bowl appearance in a 27-24 playoff win over the Koala
-August 13: Black Knights and Melody play in BFL Bowl III. Both teams
lead the league in Throwoff returns. In a close game throughout, it
went to overtime. In OT, Jason of the Melody mildly injured knee and
game ended in a 53-53 Tie. The Mustangs won the MVP.
-Adam of the Koala elect to retire from the BFL after two seasons.
-Andrew is granted a BFL team |
2001 |
-The
BFL decides to once again expand. This time, 8 teams would play in
the league. The Bulldogs, Gamblers, and Crusaders join the BFL.
-Black Knights logo is updated.
-A New overtime rule, on-side throw rule, and defensive rule are created
to make game fairer.
-Slogan: BFL Yakle This!
-Photo Day II took place in May
-The BFL Celebrates it's 5th Anniverasry Season and recongnizes the
Melody, Dragons, Sparrows, and Celts for thier 5th season.
-1/4 lines and a mid field line is added to the field for all of the
games
-June 8: The Dragons and Melody play in the highest scoring game ever.
The Dragons win it 101-95 and both teams set several records in the
process.
-June 10: The Black Knights romp the Mustangs and win it 77-49. The
Mustangs score 7 field goals.
-July 3: The Black Knights defeat the Melody and in the process score
103 points on a meaningless field goal to break the Dragons short
held record.
-July 13: The Gamblers rebound from a 15-0 Bulldogs lead to win the
game 58-38, holding the Bulldogs to only 10 second half points.
-Sparrows defeat the Crusaders 52-50 to clinch second 3-0 season
-August 3: The Black Knights and Dragons meet in BFL Bowl IV. The
Dragons battle back from a Black Knight lead to send the game to overtime.
In double overtime, the Dragons win their first BFL Bowl 69-68. The
Melody won the MVP.
-The Mustangs dismissed from the BFL after only participating in 1
game in 2001
-The Melody decide to retire from the BFL after 5 great seasons. |
2002 |
-Sean
and Yardin are granted expansion teams to be called the Fear and
Hurricane respectivly. However, Yardin drops out of exspansion bid.
Charlie is awarded a team called the Sandstorm.
-Half Hour video is made for Photo Day III.
-Slogan: Don't Miss Out!
-The BFL removes tree at mid field
-A Brand
new set is created for the 2002 season including a large banner
and sideline rails.
-BFL packets are sent home to all of the players. Each packet includes
a schedule magnet and BFL 2002 Phamlit.
-June 7: The Crusaders upset the Dragons and get a gatorade dumping,
63-56.
-June 11: The Sparrows and Bulldogs meet on the first ever Alumni
Day. At half time the Melody and Koala played an quick intense game.
-The BFL Celebrates it's 50th game between the Black Knights and
Sand Storm. A large attendance enjoys cake at halftime.
-June 24: The Bulldogs and Sandstorm play the first ever BFL "night
game" under the lights. The entire BFL was lite as the Bulldogs
picked off 3 passes to cruise to a 90-67 win over the Sandstorm.
-7/16:The Crusaders cap off a perfect 3-0 season with a 77-70 win
over the Sandstorm.
-7/28:The Fear guarantee a victory over the Bulldogs in a game that
was anticipated all season long. Sean played error free as he ended
Andy's hopes of making the playoffs 77-70.
-8/1: The Dragons stated that they will retire at the end of the
2002 season. The Gambelrs and Dragons met in the playoffs in the
game that included "The Catch". In the pitch Dark, Rich
caught a perfect pass from quarterback Howie to win the game 57-55
to shock the league.
-8/4: The Sparrows and Dragons met in BFL Bowl V. Ken won the game
as time expired 80-76. 16 people watched the game setting the record.
The Dragons retired. The Crusaders brought home the MVP. Marko won
the Commentator of the year award.
