Basic Rules
- One player on each team. This player catches passes and calls plays
- One automatic quarterback for a game. This player, helps call plays, throws the ball, and judges penalties
- Two completions for a first down
- 3 downs or tries to get first down
- To stop a play you have to *yakle your opponent (*A made up word for a two hand touch) If a player falls down and is not yakled, the play is still going. That player can get up and run.
- 4 four minute quarters
- Any fumble or lose ball that is still in play can be recovered
- If a fumble goes out of bounds on a sideline, the team that last had possession of the ball, begins (or continues) their drive
- During a play, if the offense fumbles the ball out of bounds in their own endzone, it is a safety
- Possession of the ball is considered control of the football and both feeto on the ground
- No Short passes. A short pass is considered and underhand toss to a player who is close to the quarterback or did not move the ball beyond the line of scrimmage. In addition, if the receiver's extended arm with the length of the football can touch the quarterbacks extended arm length, , it is considered a short pass and is ruled incomplete.
- The quarterback must line up on the line of scrimmage. No shotgun formation.
- A safety occurs when a ball is in play and one a player touches the ball on the field (Not including the end zones) and then catches or recovers the ball in there own endzone
- If an offensive player stops during a play for two seconds, the play is ruled a dead play and results in an incomplete.
- When a pass is caught in the endzone, the player must have both feet touch the endzone for it to be considered possession. If the player has possession prior to going into the endzone, the ball just has to cross the endzone line to have the play be ruled a touchdown.
Pass interference
- A player on defense can not corner, wall in, block, or prevent an offensive player from running a pattern. If this occurs, it is ruled defensive pass interference, and the offense gets ball place of interference and it is an automatic first down.
- A player on offence can not push off a defender in order to get open. If this occurs, it is ruled offensive pass interference and that play is ruled incomplete.
Throwoffs
- Throwoffs are done every time a half starts or after points are scored (Not after a fumble or interception)
- Throwoffs are all squib throws and if the ball crosses the ¾ line, either team can recover ball
- Throwing team can't run until throw hits the ground, if you do, you can't recover a lose ball on that Throwoff and, the receiving team gets an extra down on the first set of there drive (if needed)
- If throwoff goes out of bounds, it is a do over that is untimed
- Clock starts on throwoff when ball hits ground
- If you wish not to return a Throwoff because the ball is too deep in your endzone, you can kneel on automatically get a touchback and move up to the 1/4 line from your endzone
- There are no defensive points on an onside throwoff.
- You must go out of bounds, get yakled, or score to end the play. If you stop for two seconds (possibly by kneeling) the play ends.
- On a return, if the secondary yakler (quarterback), freezes you temporarily or forces you to run back wards in an effort to get around him, the returner is considered yakled and gets the ball at the spot of the incident.
- On-side throwoff- In one minute timing rules, you can go for an on side throwoff if you are trailing. The throwing team must inform the receiving team that they are doing it. The player on the throwing team must attempt to catch a bomb past the ¾ line. The throwing team is allowed to run prior to the ball being thrown. The quarterback must stay behind in the endzone and throw the ball within 10 seconds. If the throwing team catches the ball in the proper area, they get possession at midfield. If the ball is not caught by either throwing team, the receiving team gets the ball at midfield (The ball is not a live ball when it hits the ground during an onside throwoff). If caught by the receiving team, the player can run for a touchdown as if it were a regular throwoff and would get possession at mid field or better depending on spot were yakled.
Clock management
- 6 one minute timeouts per team per half
- Clock starts on kickoff when ball hits ground
- 20 seconds to call a play or else a loss of down (The 20 seconds start when in the huddle)
- Clock only stops after points are scored, change of possession, time out, one minute warning, and while a player is returning to the huddle (Or if quarterback spikes ball which stops the clock and results in a loss of down only in one minute timing rules)
- After a score, the ensuing throwoff must take place, if the clock permits it

- 4 four minute quarters with a break after each.
- When second quarter is over, play stops and ball goes to team that threw off in the beginning of game (For start of third quarter)
- No more then 12 seconds for a play to run. If a play exceeded 12 seconds the play is ruled incomplete. (see penalties)
- After a touchdown, the clock runs for five seconds
- For a field goal, after the play, the clock runs for exactly 8 seconds (If opposing team calls a time out after the catch, the clock runs for only 5 seconds.
- One-minute timing rules are at the last minute of each half. The clock stops for an official time out. In this time, you can spike the ball to stop the clock and throw an on side throwoff (See throwoff section). In addition, each play can not take more than 8 seconds off of the clock. If a play exceeds 8 seconds, only 8 come off the clock. Clock runs between plays unless a time out is called, an incomplete pass (spike), or out of bounds, on previous play.
- In between quarters, there is a three minute break
- In between halves, there is a 6 minute break
Scoring
- 6 points for a touchdown
- 1 point for extra point *1
- 2 points for two point conversion *2
- 3 points for a field goal *3
- 2 points for interception*4
- 2 points for a fumble recovory*4
- 2 points for a safety*5
How to…
- *1- For an extra point, the team that scored gets ball at midfield and has to throw the ball to receiver in the end zone (If the receiver isn't in end zone then no point are scored)
- *2- For a two point conversion, the team that scored gets the ball from ¼ and runs 1 regular play (no touchdown points could be scored for defense Can score defensive points)
- *3-For a field goal the ball must be thrown to the receiver in the end zone (If receiver isn't in end zone with both feet, then no point are scored and the possession changes at the line of scrimmage) (Clock runs for exactly 8 seconds) (If opposing team wishes to call a time out, the clock will run for exactly 5 seconds). This can only be done on 3rd and 1. Or 3rd and 2 if player is beyond midfield. A player can not intentionally ground ball to make down 3rd down (a full pattern must be ran)
- *4- Defense points can be scored on a two point conversion try. If a fumble or interception occurs during a two-point conversion, the defending team gets two points. In addition, defensive points can't be scored on Throwoffs (Safeties are not considered defensive points). If the ball is fumbled several times on one play, the points are only given out if the defense gains possession by the end of the play
- *5- A safety occurs when a ball is fumbled (with offence possession) and it rolls out of bounds in the endzone of the offence, it is a touchback and the ball is given to the defense. If it is a defense possession, it is a safety. The ball is then given back to the offence. Or when team touches ball out of endzone and is yakled in own endzone.
Overtime
- In over time, each team gets one possession from ¾ away from their opponents endzone. They must score a touchdown in three plays. If they are successful on one play, they receive three points. On two plays, 2 points and on three plays, 1 point. After the first team scores or loses possession, the other team must tie or beat the number of points that the first team received. After both teams has had one possession the winning team wins the game. If they are tied, the game ends in a tie. (Except in the playoffs where each team will get an additional possession until there is a winner)
Penalties
- During a Throwoff, throwing team can't run until the throw hits the ground, if you do, you can't recover a lose ball on that Throwoff and, the receiving team gets an extra down on the first set of there drive(if needed)
- 20 seconds to call a play or else a loss of down
- Pass interference is judged by quarterback, if it is on defense, then offense gets ball place of interference and it is an automatic first down. If it is on offense, than it is a loss of down
- If during a play, the receiver is trying to get open and can't for 12 seconds, the play is dead and it is a loss of down
- If play does not exceed the line of scrimmage, the play is ruled incomplete
- If a player on offense is intentionally not making an effort to attempt to get open for 3 seconds, the play is ruled as incomplete.
Season and Playoffs
- In each division, all four teams play each other once. Each team gets 2 points on there record for a win and 1 point for a tie.
- The two division winners and the next two teams with the best record go to the playoffs (If there is a tie for the fourth spot, this is how there is a tie breaker. Each number is if they are still tied:
- Won of the head to head game meeting
- Division Record (If in same Division)
- Points ratio
- A one game playoff, with possession rules (Possession rules are that each team gets one possession, after each team had the ball, the team with a higher score wins. If still tied after three possessions, each team gets the ball in an overtime. The difference in points is added to the teams in the standings)
- BFL Bowl consists of two playoff winners teams and it determines, the best team in that season
Little Facts
- The field is about66 feet long (With out the endzone) and is divided into fourths
- The field is divided into fourths
- If you get hurt and need a short break, the clock stops
- Every game starts with a coin toss and winner of toss can choose kick, receive, or which way they want to run for the first half
- You can lateral the ball to your quarterback who can only throw the ball
- The automatic quarterback can not receive the ball in a regular season or playoff game
- The automatic quarterback can and should make yakles on Throwoffs and on turnovers only
- There is a forfeit rule. If you are losing by 24 points or more during the fourth quarter, you can give up and take a loss with the current score. (Not recommended because in the BFL, anything can happen)
- You're supposed to call your own plays. Make them tricky.
- At the end of the season, a player that played with the best , wins the Go-Go (MVP) Award
