THE TEAM OF THE 90s

Without any shadow of a doubt, the Spanish Fed Cup Team, (integrated by Arantxa Sánchez-Vicario and Conchita Martínez as its two brightest stars), has been the "Best Team of the Decade" in the Fed Cup competition.

Defeating, on their way to the books of history, teams of yesterday, integrated by players that reigned during the 80s and 90s in the WTA tour. As well as defeating players called to rule tennis in the following millennium.



RESULTS IN 2001

The end of the season is approaching and it's Fed Cup time again. Spain has qualified directly to the final, that will be held in Madrid (my home town! yeah!), indoors, and apparently on clay. To learn more go to the Fed Cup 2001 section



RESULTS IN 2000

In this year 2000, Conchita and Arantxa have played one match together within the Fed Cup, vs. Germany. They won the match 6-2 6-3.

They have also played doubles together in four tournaments:

  • Amelia Island - where they reached the SF (play was suspended due to rain and the SF and F were cancelled)
  • German Open - where they went all the way, and won the title.
  • Montreal - lost in the first round to Dragomir/Cristea 75 64.
  • Olympics (Sydney) - lost in the second round to Russian team.

  • Fed Cup 2001
    Spain has qualified directly for the Final of this year Fed Cup.

    The final will be played in November, in Madrid (SPAIN), in a round robin format, featuring the teams from 8 different countries.



    Fed Cup 2000
    Spain reached the Final of the Fed Cup yet again. For an unbelievable record of 9 final appearances in barely a decade (winning 5 of them)

    Defeating the Czech Republic in the SF, Spain lost in the Final to the USA.



    Fed Cup 1999
    Spain lost in the QF in vs. Italy. Neither Conchita Martínez nor Arantxa Sánchez-Vicario took part in this edition of the Fed Cup.
