Naarad Jee
Naarad Muni is one of the ten Maanas Putra (brainchildren) of Brahmaa
Jee - Angiraa, Atri, Bhrigu, Daksh, Kratu, Mareechi, Naarad, Pulah,
Pulastya, and Vashishth. He was born from his lap. He is a
Brahmchaaree and always wanders in all Lok with His Veenaa singing and
playing it. His Veenaa is made with tortoise shell (Mahaabhaarat, Shalya
Parv, Ch 54).
He keeps all the information of everywhere. He is fond of quarrels, so he is a provoker
of quarrels too. Several incidents may be quoted of his this habit.
(Vaalmeeki
Raamaayan, Uttar Kaand, Sarg19)
When Raavan was going to Rasaatal to win Naag, Naarad Jee instigated him
to win Yam Raaj first, and when Raavan agreed to do that, he arrived at
the place of the fight before Raavan to see their fight.
[Mahaabhaarat, Udyog Parv,
Ch 45-55]
When Krishn goes
to Hastinaapur as a Peace messenger, everybody tries to change
Duryodhan's mind from war to peace. Some Rishi were also present there. Among them
there was a Rishi Kanv. He told the story of
Maatali to Duryodhan. Maatali
also knows about Naarad's this habit. Maatali was out in search of a groom for
his daughter. When Naarad suggested that he could search
a groom for his daughter among Daitya, he commented that he wouldn't do
such a thing which could provoke quarrel between Devtaa and Daitya and he
knew that Naarad was fond of fomenting quarrels.
But otherwise he is of very
helping nature:
(1) He helped Dhruv
guiding him for Naaraayan's
worship.
(2) He helped Vaalmeeki
to become Maharshi Vaalmeeki.
(3) He helped alleviate Ved
Vyaas Jee's dissatisfaction which arose in his heart after writing
Mahaabhaarat. He advised him to write
about the events related to Hari. So he wrote
Shree Mad-Bhaagvat
Puraan.
(4) He advised Pareekshit to hear Shree Mad-Bhaagvat Puraan Kathaa for his emancipation when he got the Shaap of Shameek
Rishi's son Shringee Rishi, that he would be bitten by Takshak Naag after
seven days.
