MISSIONS, AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
MISSIONS
BCSC is
dedicated to promoting Christian principles and values and protecting
Bhutanese Christians’ right to freedom of religion, worship, observe and
practise, principles of non-discrimination, and creating a culture of peace
and religious harmony among various religious communities in Bhutan. It is
also dedicated for the community development, improvement of the educational
and economic status of Bhutanese Christian community.
VISION
A just
and equitable multi-religious society of Bhutan in which individuals and
peoples of all religious communities are able to live peacefully in communal
and religious harmony and contribute equally in the mainstream development
process and able to exercise their rights, define and articulate their
interests and needs in public policy.
GOALS
The
goals of BCSC are as follows:
1.To
work for the promotion and protection of Bhutanese Christian community’s
right to freedom of religion, worship, observe and practise their religion
in private, community, and in public in Bhutan.
2.To
work for the elimination of all forms of discrimination against Christian
community in Bhutan and to raise and generate awareness on the human rights
issue of religious freedom and the persecution of people of faith in Bhutan
3.
To promote goodwill, co-operation,
non-discrimination and foster tolerance forbearance between and among
religious groups for strengthening the multi-religious society of Bhutan.
4.
To work for securing justice for
Christian minorities suffering discrimination, prejudice and persecution in
Bhutan.
5.To
work for the improvement of the educational and economic status and health
situation of Bhutanese Christian community.
6.To
work for the development of leadership quality among the members of
Bhutanese Christian community.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The
basic objectives of BCSC are as follows:
1.
To work for the promotion,
protection and defence of the rights of Christian minorities and elimination
of all forms of discrimination and persecution against them in Bhutan.
2.
To work for the protection and
promotion of Bhutanese peoples’ right to freedom of religion, worship and
practise their religion in private, community or in public in Bhutan. In
this connection undertake international and national campaign, lobbying and
advocacy for securing Christians’ right to freedom of religion and the
establishment of Churches inside Bhutan.
3.
To raise or generate international
awareness on the human rights issue of religious freedom, the persecution of
people of faith in Bhutan and the about the violation of the rights of
Bhutanese Christian and mobilize international public opinion, support,
solidarity for Bhutanese Christians. To work for the protection of Bhutanese
Christians’ personal safety and security from government by sensitising
international Christian community.
4.To
undertake advocacy, campaign and lobbying with the donor countries and
agencies for persuading or pressurizing the government of Bhutan to lift ban
on Christianity and permit the establishment of Churches in Bhutan.
5.To
work for the development of leadership quality among the members of
Bhutanese Christian community.
6.To
serve as an information, documentation and research centre on Bhutanese
Christians and undertake research, survey, documentation and publication on
their situation. To collect and disseminate information on the situation of
Bhutanese Christians to the international community and the Christians
worldwide.
7.To
facilitate the translation, wherever necessary, and distribution of books
and scriptures for Bhutanese Christians inside Bhutan.
8.To
promote goodwill and co-operation and foster tolerance forbearance between
and among communities, religious and cultural groups for strengthening the
multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-linguistic and multi-cultural society
of Bhutan. To promote and propagate principles and provisions of
international human rights on right to freedom of religion among Bhutanese
communities.
9.To
work for the community development, improvement of the educational and
economic status and health situation of Bhutanese Christian community.
10.
To raise resources for helping the
Christian youth of Bhutan who are denied employment opportunities by the
government and the private sector, to receive vocational training and
technical education.
11.
To develop and establish educational
fund for supporting school, college and university education for the under
privileged, deprived and poor Christian children, students and youth of
Bhutan who have no access to school, college and university education.
12.
To co-ordinate activities with
similar groups and other organisations for the protection and defence of the
rights of Bhutanese Christians at local, national regional and international
level.
13.
To organise training, seminar and
workshop for Bhutanese Christian community. To organise awareness-raising
programmes for Bhutanese people about the principles and provisions of
non-discrimination, tolerance, forbearance, co-existence, equality, social
justice and religious rights.
14.
To organise inter-religious dialogue
among the religious groups.
