Synoptic (Same Day) Watershed Testing
A Beall High School crew including Mr. Baxter collected water samples throughout the Matthew and Neff Run Watershed on a foggy Saturday, February 28, 2000. These samples were all tested for pH to basically give a 'picture' of that water parameter for one late winter day. The longrange plan is to do one test each of the next four seasons.

There's more to the endeavor than just dipping sampling containers in the water. Staying dry is a challenge as JHosh demonstrates moving back up this stream bank.

Zack shows a pipe found in the Matthew Run stream bed. It could have come from an old dwelling in the area or have been part of an abandoned mining operation. Acid mine drainage from past mining is a main water quality problem in this area.

Thanks to Beall students James (WeatherGuy) Oberhaus, Mike (Commo) Leptic, Zack (EagleEye) Ryan, and JHosh (Photog) McKenzie for their help. Mike's walkie-talkies were a big help in coordinating movements.
