Dining in Paris: On the
Bateaux Mouches up and down the Seine; the Cafe Grandes
Marches
Our Swedish hosts provided two fantastic
Paris evening meals. The first was on boat on the River Seine, the
Bateauz Mouches.
It lasted two or three hours, we went up
the river, back down the river, then back to the dock. Along the way,
as twilight fell, and the lights came on, we went past the Notre Dame
Cathedral and many other sights along the river that we have heard
about all our lives. All along the way, we were being "wined and
dined" in the finest style. I didn't try the wine, of course, but,
that is my personal problem!
At this table, from the left, are Ulf,
our Swedish host, Aleta Roth (USA, University of North Carolina) and
her husband, Dick Chase (USA, University of Southern California) and
his wife, and, on the right, Dave Tansik (USA, University of
Arizona).
And at my table:
Need to fill in names, Bill, sans
glasses, on the right, in the foreground.
The other evening, we were taken by our
big maroon bus to the Bastille district to the Les Grandes Marches,
Place de la Bastille, for a true French restaurant meal in
Paris.
It was so exclusive, for us, by our
hosts, that we each received a personal, engraved menu, with the date
(21 septembre 1998) and the menu on the right. I had our hosts
autograph mine for me.
I really have no idea what we ate, but,
it came in many waves, from really decked out servers, had duck in
the middle and chocolate at the end, with lots of kinds, types, and
shapes of wine, I'm told.
