The neighorhood around
Republique, including the Paris streets, the Holiday Inn, and, of
course, McDonalds.
The neighorhood I stayed in while in
Paris is known as Place de la Republique, with a large statue in the
center of the Plaza, that was right outside my window. The statue is
described as a "charmingly nostalgic staute of a flower girl of the
1830s, La Grissette."
From my hotel window, the plaza looks
like this:
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Republique,
10 Place de la Republique, which had a nearby Metro station just
below my room and to the right in the above picture. Following is a
picture of the front of the hotel (which is the right of the statue
as seen above):
The Holiday Inn has a peach colored
awning, clearly visible above. My room was on the second floor, just
above the bus and behind the the light post, in this
picture.
When I walked out of the hotel, across
the plaza, past the statue, was another typical Paris Street.
Straight ahead, across the street, was the McDonalds:
As you walk along any one the streets,
there are kiosks/newstands at regular intervals, with hugh posters on
the sides boosting the latest magazine and newspaper stories. When I
was there, Hillary Clinton was a hot topic:
While not a big fan at home, I did feel
very comfortable with the food and the prices at the McDonalds in
Paris. Sometimes, I walked across the street, like many others, and
ate in the Park, like many others:

For perspective, I was sitting where the
gentleman in the white shirt is, looking down the park toward the
carosell and the statue. I share these pictures to illustrate what a
fun and friendly place I found my neighborhood to be. They even had
Light Cola! - very much like our Diet Coke, at
home....
