Touring Paris: Notre Dame, the Effiel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe,
the artist's district Montmartre
My schedule allowed my one extra day on
the trip to do just a little touring while in Paris. I didn't get
pictures of everything, but, a selected few are shared, below,
starting with the Notre Dame Cathedral, which was undergoing some
renovation at the time (lower part):
Of course, the Eiffel Tower could be seen
from most any high point. I got a couple different views. Here is a
nice one, from a moderate distance. We drove by close on the other
side to see the big millenium clock - that didn't work on New Year's
- but, this is a better view.
Just to my right, as I stand taking this
picture of the tower, was one of hundreds of statues around
Paris.
Every tour of Paris goes down the Champs
Elysees, to the
Arc de Triomphe. This isn't the
greatest shot, but, it is authentic. We went around a couple of
times. This is the best I could do!
The one unusual place for me, was
the
artist's district of Montmartre,
on a hill, out on the edge of the city. Here is a view of the Eiffel
Tower, where we got off the bus, to give an idea of our
location.
Montmarte is a very popular stop. Here is
just one shot to provide an idea of the street vendor atmosphere.
Little shops and restaurants filled the buildings around this square
on the hillside.
There were also pantomimists, jugglers,
and other acts going on just about everywhere.
A final picture is of the Hotel where
Princess Diana was staying on her fateful last night in
Paris.
