When Carol returned to the Avengers as Warbird, Iron Man immediately noticed her drinking and was the first to voice concerns about her membership. A recovering alcoholic himself, Tony recognized Carol's attempts to hide her drinking. Iron Man tried to convince Carol to seek help and even revealed his secret identity as Tony Stark to her, in an effort to win her trust and show her just how much he understood what she was going through. Carol was not yet ready to admit she had a problem and reacted violently to Tony's suggestion that she was an alcoholic like him. When Carol was finally court martialed for her inappropriate actions as an Avenger, Iron Man tried to be understanding and supportive.
Carol recently moved to Seattle and bumped into Tony who has also relocated to the area. After an initial argument, the two battled together against the new War Machine. As Warbird, Carol helped to defeat War Machine, but not before the battle aggravated Tony's worsening medical condition. Carol saved Tony's life by rushing him to the hospital when his recent injuries finally caused him to collapse. Later, Carol admitted to Tony that she had a problem and thanked him for being there. This was the first time that Carol opened up to anyone and let down her defensive posture about her drinking. Tony was clearly prepared to be a strong source of support for Carol if she chose to face her drinking problem.
Carol has recently returned from a trip to New York where she was trying to find a publisher for her science fiction novel. While there, she and Iron Man fought the recently awakened Doomsday Man alongside the Wasp, Giant-Man & Justice. Upon her return to Seattle she again teamed up with Iron Man, this time against her old foes, Goldenblade and the Sapper. The battle ended explosively when Carol's heavily inebriated state caused her to once again make a potentially fatal error in battle. Iron Man saved Carol and took her home, where she admitted to her drinking and tearfully asked Tony for help. Together, the pair will confront the demon in the bottle that now haunts them both.
