FAQ > Why have parents rejected institutionalized schooling for their children
There are various reasons for this.
- Dissatisfaction with the education mainstream schools provide.
- Inability to afford a private school (in this case, they haven't rejected institutionalized education).
- Safety concerns -- their children may even be subjected to excessive or undue physical or mental abuse
- Socialisation - what their children would pick up from their peers and teachers at school is contrary to their beliefs and values.
- Humanitarian - institutionalised learning is viewed as unnnatural and thus limiting. Some parents feel that children should learn what they want, where they want, and how they want to.
- Prejudice - Their children's academic standing and/or future would be adversely affected by teachers and others who have a personal problem with their or their children's income level, appearance, nationality, heritage, etc.
