Custom Swing Bike

Right Side ViewI own a swing bike that I bought at a yard sale back in 1980. Like yours it was yellow. On Mother's day, 1979 my dad bought my first Swing Bike. It was blue and it looked just like the one on your web page. During the spring of 1980 our garage was broken into and my bike was stolen. Not too surprising for inner city Chicago. So that summer I was on my way to guitar class when I came across the yellow bike. Let me tell you this bike was in poor condition but it didn't stop me from running home to get my dad. Skipping guitar lessons was worth it to me, I still can't play. But I had my bike!!!! It was missing many parts so my Dad took me to the local bike shop and together we put it back together. In time the original seat was trashed along with other parts but I knew I would own this bike forever. So to make the bike easier to take with me after I moved out, I stripped the bike down to just the frame, fork and seat stem.

Left Side ViewIt's now the winter of 1995 and every time my 9 year old son saw this frame he would ask,"What's that?". So I took the bike to a place that does chrome thus transforming my yellow bike into what might be the only chrome Swing Bike. The most important thing that became of this was now me and my son was off to the bike shop to buy parts to restore the bike, the same way me and my Dad in 1980. My son loves this bike just as I did the first time I rode it. I was surprised to see there are others out there that share the interest in this bike. I am so thankful that you started this web page. I would love to hear other stories and see more pictures from other owners.
